Gerry “Scootie” Jean Ross, age 74, of Hot Springs, passed at home and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung and brain cancer a month prior to her death. Her final months were spent surrounded by her family.

She was born on May 1, 1944, in Idabel, Okla., the daughter of Henry Dyer and Evelyn Doan Dyer. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Ross, after over 30 years of marriage; son, Greg Mixon; and stepson, Todd Ross.

Gerry was a devoted Christian in faith and a faithful member of Airport Road Church of Christ. She was a loving wife, caring mother, grandmothe­r, a loyal sister and a genuine friend. Her fun personalit­y and kind smile could light up any room. Her goal was to live a happy life while making others smile. “Scootie” was truly one-of-akind. Gerry was a self-employed hairdresse­r. On July 19, 1985, her husband Jack had a traumatic spinal cord injury, leaving him a quadripleg­ic for the remaining 30 years of his life. She devoted herself from that point to his care. She was an inspiratio­n to all who witnessed her love and attentiven­ess to his needs.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Turney and husband J.R., of Hot Springs; stepdaught­er and stepson-in-law, Wendy Plyler and husband Gary, of Gurdon; six grandchild­ren, Morgan Herndon, Scott Turney and Kayli Turney, all of Hot Springs, Jill and John Jester, of Gurdon, Joe and Kayla Plyler, of Gurdon, Jake and Rebecca Plyler, of Arkadelphi­a; brother and sisterin-law, Larry Dyer and wife Susie, of Tulsa; sister-in-law, Betty and husband George Beaver, of South Carolina; special nieces, Trish, Penny, Janda and Debbie; special nephews, Darren, Todd, David and Dan; special cousin, Janet and husband Gary Stout, of North Dakota; as well as extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Airport Road Church of Christ, Hot Springs, with Jack Smith officiatin­g.

Interment will follow at Easley Cemetery, outside of Gurdon.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

Pallbearer­s will be Jake Plyler, Joe Plyler, Jon Jester, Darren Dyer, Todd Dyer and Fisher Alexander.

Honorary pallbearer­s will be Windy Brown, Lowell Gadberry, Danny Vaughn and Gary Hunt.
