Lakeside bests visiting Bryant golf teams

Wil Griffin medaled with a 75 in a boys’ golf match on Thursday as Lakeside picked up a pair of wins against Bryant at the Hot Springs Country Club.

Lakeside won the boys’ match 307-330. Nathen Ahlers, Carson Garner and Cooper Gordon added scores of 76, 76 and 80, respective­ly, for the Rams.

Bryant was led by a pair of 79 scores carded by Clayton Harbour and Logan McDonald. Landon Allison shot an 85 and Daniel Taylor added an 88.

Sophomore Abby Lea Huett medaled for Lakeside in the girls’ match with an 86. Fellow sophomore Carly Orr added a 96 and Riley Langston shot a 104 to give Lakeside a team score of 286.

Bryant’s team score was 291. The visitors were led by an 87 by Caitlin LaCerra and a score of 92 from Brooklyn Waller.

“These are really nice wins for the boys’ and girls’ teams,” said Lakeside golf coach Gary Don Smith. “Bryant teams are always hard to beat. Our home course proved to be a nice advantage.”

Lakeside picked up another win on Aug. 6 in Sheridan for a nine-hole trimatch involving Malvern. Griffin medaled again for the Rams as the team finished with a score of 151. Malvern finished at 192 and Sheridan carded a score of 212.

Griffin won the medal in a chip off with teammate Griffin Wuensch as both carded rounds of 37. Ahlers added and 38 and Cooper Gordon shot a 39.

Malvern was led by rounds of 47 by Andrew Edwards and Braxton Allen. Taylor Melton led Sheridan with a score of 42.

Sheridan was led in the girls’ match by Emma Hester, who medaled with a 34.

Orr led Lakeside with a score of 46. Langston carded a 54 and Lilly Crabtree added a 56.

Maddie Taylor shot a 61 for Malvern. Jannah Davis added a score of 70.

Lakeside is scheduled to host Lake Hamilton at the Hot Springs Country Club on Thursday.
