A California man attempted to flee from investigators when they arrived to arrest him and several others on felony charges in relation to a string of vehicle break-ins that recently occurred across Garland County, according to reports.

Corey Aaron McHenry, 27, who lists a Central Avenue address, was arrested shortly before 11 a.m. Friday at 210 Aberina, where Garland County sheriff’s deputies served warrants for felony theft by receiving on suspects in a string of vehicle break-ins.

McHenry was charged with

felony simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, punishable by up to life in prison; felony possession of drug paraphernalia, punishable by up to 20 years in prison; theft by receiving, on a warrant service; felony possession of methamphetamine; felony possession of a firearm by certain persons, punishable by up to six years in prison; felony possession of drug paraphernalia; felony breaking or entering, each punishable by up to six years in prison; and misdemeanor fleeing.

He remained in custody in lieu of a zero bond and appeared in Garland County Court on Monday.

According to the probable cause affidavit, multiple investigators with the Garland County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the residence to serve felony theft by receiving warrants on McHenry, in particular, and others.

Investigators located McHenry in the driver’s seat of a running Honda Accord, as he was preparing to leave. Investigator Matt Ellis stepped out of his vehicle and advised McHenry to show his hands. McHenry allegedly refused to follow verbal commands and continued to keep his hands out of sight. Ellis noted it appeared as if he was doing something in the floorboard of the vehicle.

As another investigator approached the vehicle, McHenry opened the door and began to flee, running to the end of a group of condominiums toward Lake Hamilton, the affidavit said. Despite verbal commands from Ellis to stop, McHenry continued until he was apprehended by Investigator Brandon Huckaba about halfway between the condos and the lake. McHenry allegedly continued to resist after being taken into custody.

While searching the vehicle, investigators reportedly discovered a 9-mm Glock handgun, matching a firearm that was reported stolen from a residence on Margaret Street, with rounds in the magazine, located on the floorboard of the driver’s side where McHenry had been sitting. Investigators also allegedly located four used syringes, a glass smoking pipe with a “crystal” of suspected methamphetamine, and a set of digital scales with methamphetamine residue on it.

After searching the vehicle, investigators began searching the residence and located more items associated with recent vehicle break-ins and various drug paraphernalia and narcotics, the affidavit said

During an interview with McHenry, investigators reportedly showed him a photo taken from security footage from a house on Arkota Shores during a break-in. McHenry allegedly acknowledged the photo and shook his head up and down to indicate it was him in the photo.

He reportedly said that he ran because he was released from the Arkansas Department of Correction in November and knew there was a firearm underneath his seat in the Honda. McHenry is an active parolee on supervision for a felony in November of 2011.
