Ballot positions drawn
The Garland County Election Commission drew ballot positions Friday for the Nov. 6 general election and nonpartisan runoff.
The state election code required the secretary of state and county and city clerks to certify their list of candidates to county election boards Thursday. Ballot draws have to be held 72 days before the election. Because the deadline is Sunday, county boards have until Monday to draw for ballot positions.
The Garland County board uses playing cards numbered two through 10 to determine position, with the high card denoting the higher placement on the ballot. This is the first general election unopposed candidates will not appear on the ballot, save Garland County Circuit Clerk
Jeannie Pike.
Turnout in the circuit clerk’s race helps determine the number of signatures needed to get citizen-led initiatives and referendums on future ballots.
Morgan Wiles was the Democratic candidate for District 18 in the state House but has withdrawn and filed to run for Mountain Pine mayor, leaving incumbent Richard Womack unopposed.
Oct. 8 is the voter registration deadline for the November election, and early voting begins Oct. 22.
