Kenny to emcee JazzFest ‘In the Streets’ outdoor event
Bud Kenny will emcee the JazzFest’s “In the Streets” free outdoor event starting at 11 a.m. Sept. 1 under the Broadway sky bridge.
Kenny is the founder and current host of Hot Springs’ Wednesday Night Poetry, which has not missed a Wednesday since Feb. 1, 1989.
Over the past 30 years, Kenny has emceed numerous poetry and musical events in this area and elsewhere across America.
In 2001, he left Hot Springs on foot with Della the mule headed for the coast of Maine. During that two-and-a-half-year journey, he produced roadside poetry shows. His memoir of that adventure, “Footloose In America — Dixie To New England,” is available online at http://www.amazon.com.
The 27th Hot Springs JazzFest, Aug. 30 through Sept. 2, is produced by the Hot Springs Jazz Society and presented in venues throughout Hot Springs National Park with entrance costs ranging from free to $55. Artists from Arkansas and around the country are scheduled to perform, including a concert at the Ohio Club with the Dixieland group Spa City Stompers, the Classical & Jazz Blow Out with a surprising combination of jazz by ATM and classical music by the Arkansas Brass quintet, the traditional free outdoor concert Jazz in the Streets, and several other jazz programs.
