FL notches tennis wins to open conference slate

FOUNTAIN LAKE — Fountain Lake’s boys’ and girls’ tennis teams each beat Bismarck on Thursday in their first conference matches of the season.

The boys’ doubles teams of Trenton Brasel with Marcus Needles and Zak Butler with Colton McMullen each won, 6-0. Matthew Blees won in singles play, 6-3.

Kaitlyn Bledsoe also won in singles play, 6-2, while Victoria Pike battled back from an 0-4 hole to win, 6-4. Sydney Thistlewai­the and Zoie Walker won their doubles match, 6-3, while Hannah Bearden and Lizzy Leach won their match, 6-4.

The Cobras are scheduled for two road matches this week. They are scheduled to travel to Burns Park in North Little Rock on Monday to meet Episcopal Collegiate before traveling to Arkadelphi­a on Thursday.

Cobras pick up tri-match victory in Glenwood

GLENWOOD — Fountain Lake earned a win in boys’ competitio­n Thursday in a tri-match against Centerpoin­t and Cossatot River at the Glenwood Country Club.

Christophe­r Desfassiau­x finished as the medalist with a round of 42. Zach Redifer and Jordan Mungle added scored of 44 and 45 to round out the Cobras’ 131 team score.

Kaden Owens led the Knights with a 44. Centerpoin­t carded a team score of 142, while Cossatot River finished at 193.

“I think the boys played very well today,” said Fountain Lake coach Michael Blees. “Most of these kids have played here twice at the most. For a new venue, we played very well.”

Cossatot River edged out Centerpoin­t in the girls’ match, 170-171. Fountain Lake was close behind at 187.

Kaydra Fox medaled for Centerpoin­t with a round of 45. Elaine Altimus led Fountain Lake with a score of 55.

“The girls struggled a little today, but Elaine is the only girl on the team with any experience on the course,” Blees said. “It plays a little tighter than we are accustomed to”

Fountain Lake is scheduled for a road match against Malvern on Monday before having a week off and picking back up with Bismarck on Sept. 4 at DeGray Lake Resort Golf Course.

Junior Rams fall to Greenbrier

GREENBRIER — Lakeside’s junior high volleyball teams each lost at Greenbrier on Thursday, including a three-set lost by the ninth-grade team.

The junior Rams lost 21-15, 25-20, 15-10. They were led by Sarah Porter with eight service points, two aces, six kills and six solo blocks.

Other contributo­rs included Annelise McAlister with six service points, one ace, four kills, four digs and eight assists; Abbie Thomas with six kills and three solo blocks; Vivien Mardis with five kills, three digs and nine assists; and Mady Davenport with four kills and six digs.

Back row play was maintained by Libby Divers and Kaitlyn Threadgill with 13 and 12 digs, respective­ly.

The eighth-grade match went in favor of the hosts by scores of 25-22 and 25-13. Brookland Bourland had six service points and Olivia Porter added five.

The ninth-grade B team fell, 256, and the eighth-grade B team lost,

25-8.

The junior Rams are scheduled for a tournament today in Benton. The ninth-grade and eighth-grade teams are scheduled for their first home matches of the season on Monday against Mena at 4 p.m. inside Ram Field House.

The senior high volleyball team won, 3-2, at Greenbrier (1-1) on Thursday. The Rams (2-0) won the first two sets and lost the next two, but held on in the final set for the

25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 17-25, 15-12 victory. The Rams will be at home on Monday against Mena inside the Lakeside Athletic Complex with the first of four matches, beginning with a seventh-grade game, scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
