HSV Breakfast Lions volunteer at the Yorktown Bay Blind Camp
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Hot Springs Village Breakfast Lions and other volunteers recently descended on the Camp Yorktown Bay Blind Camp on Lake Ouachita to help ensure that 60 blind and visually impaired campers had fun for the week.
Lion President Bob Peterson reported “the camp ran beautifully thanks to Director Noreen Westerbeck, her assistant, Gina Webb, RN, from Ozark Academy, and their staff and the volunteers who came from all over the United States to help. Some volunteers came with the whole family who pitched in to make the week great for the campers,” according to the press release.
Campers came from all over Arkansas and other states.
Each camper could choose from activities throughout the day, such as nature, wood shop, gym, canoeing, tubing behind a speed boat, rope swing, archery, arts and crafts, candle making, rock wall climbing, horseback riding, swimming and group rides on the barge. Evenings were spent with flag lowering, worship, relaxing with new and old friends as well as preparing for talent shows.
The Lions helped in many of the physical and social activities, and drove campers to and from their cabins or activities on golf carts. Many campers made their way around the hilly and rugged campground on their own.
