Rams survive five-set match at Greenbrier

GREENBRIER — Lakeside picked up varsity and junior varsity wins in volleyball action Thursday on the road at Greenbrier.

“It was an exciting night as the JV came back and won in three, as well as the varsity never quitting,” said Lakeside head coach Rhonda Thigpen. “It was an exciting night of play.

“We needed this to have both groups have to push through a best of three for JV and took the match in the third. The varsity went five and it was a nail-biter.”

Lakeside (2-0) won the first two sets, 25-15 and 2518, before dropping the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-17. The Rams took the final set, 15-12, for the victory.

“There was some intense volleyball played tonight at Greenbrier by both groups,” Thigpen said.

Sophomore Maddie Trusty had 22 kills and 17

digs to go with four service aces, two assists and two blocks. Junior libero Molly Stineman made 18 digs and two service aces. Junior setter Olivia Lawrence made 22 assists to go with four assisted blocks, two kills and 15 digs.

Other contributo­rs included junior hitter Claire Monte with nine kills and two assisted blocks; sophomore blocker Adachi Igbokidi with four solo blocks, six assisted blocks and three kills; senior captain Daelynn White with eight digs; fellow senior captain Meghan Fuller-Freeman with two assisted blocks and three kills; sophomore Katie Ballard with three kills ad two assisted blocks; and juniors Hattie Anne Douglas and Mary Catherine Cowen, who each made four digs.

Lakeside is scheduled to host Mena (1-1) on Monday and travel to El Dorado (0-1) on Tuesday before hosting Lake Hamilton (1-1) on Thursday.

* The junior varsity team won, 25-20, 13-25, 15-13.

Sophomore hitter Wesley Divers led the team with nine kills. Sophomore setter Hailey Fauber added six digs and six assists.

Other contributo­rs included sophomore Macy Landry with six digs, sophomore setter Natalie Jennings with five assists, and sophomore Ava Monte and junior Jaiden Drake, who each made three kills.

* The junior high Rams (2-2) participat­ed in a tri-match on Saturday in Benton. They took the three-set in in their first match against Bryant, 22-25, 25-9, 15-12.

Lakeside was led by Abbie Thomas with nine kills and three solo blocks. Vivien Mardis added

19 service points and four aces, 10 assists, three kills and two digs.

Other contributo­rs were Mady Davenport with four kills and four digs, Libby Divers with 14 digs and four kills, Sarah Porter with four kills and Kaitlyn Threadgill with

19 digs.

Host Benton took the second match, 25-10, 25-14. The Rams were led by Thomas, Davenport and Porter with two kills each. Threadgill worked the backcourt with 11 digs.

The junior high team will play its first home match of the season on Monday at 4 p.m. in the Ram Field House against Mena.
