Volunteers needed for fundraising effort

- Janie Smith

Jackson House serves many seniors each month with food, lunches, clothing, medication assistance, transportation costs to the doctor, etc. Seniors often need these and other services to get by on fixed incomes. These services can be costly, therefore, Jackson House has to raise money to keep these, and other programs funded. We do not have any federal or state assistance. We depend on donations to provide services. JH has served this community for nearly 42 years.

This week we saw a lady with end-stage renal cancer. She needed food, nutritional supplements, clothes and medicine. The volunteer was so glad to help her, comfort her, and listen to her as she seldom had anyone around. What a blessing it was, for both of them, to feel the exchange of encouragement and understanding. Both left with a feeling of warmth that day. You never know how just your presence can be for someone in need.

We are currently looking for volunteers for a fundraising effort among other needs. JH is hosting The Amazing Spa City Challenge Sept. 29 and Hunger No More dinner and auction on Oct. 19. Both events will be tons of fun! We need greeters, people to act as guides, and other event assisters. There are many other opportunities to serve our community through volunteering. Please call 501-623-4048 to arrange a tour and make a decision that pays you back with love and appreciation every time you come. Jackson House is “A Place To Care And Be Cared For.”
