OBU soccer players receives GAC awards

ARKADELPHI­A — Two more Ouachita Baptist student-athletes were recognized by the Great American Conference this week with awards for women’s soccer.

Junior Erin Webster, of Alvin, Texas, was named the first GAC Goalkeeper of the Week of the season. Senior forward Bryson Thomas, of Hurst, Texas, was named the Offensive Player of the Week.

The announceme­nt came this week after two Ouachita volleyball players received GAC awards in volleyball. Junior Adrianna Nolly repeated as the Offensive Player of the Week and senior Stormi Leonard was named the Setter of the Week for the third time in her career.

Henderson State junior Gigi Garramone was named Defensive Player of the Week in volleyball.

Ouachita sophomore Jorie Beaumont, of Lockport, Ill., was nominated for the GAC Women’s Runner of the Week award after winning the Tigers’ Bob Gravett Invitation­al cross country meet a week ago. Oklahoma Baptist senior Sydney Lawarence received the award after the University of Central Oklahoma Land Run in Edmond, Okla., the site of the

2018 GAC Championsh­ips. Also nominated were Arkansas Tech’s Aubre Gilbreath, Southern Arkansas’ Carley Hale and Harding’s Alicja Minczuk.

Harding junior Bartek Kwiecinski was named the Men’s Runner of the Week. Jacob Larsen, of Southern Arkansas, was also nominated.

Ouachita’s men’s soccer team also garnered two nomination­s for GAC awards. Senior forward Colten Clark, of Coppell, Texas, was nominated for Offensive Player of the Week after scoring in a 2-0 win over Rogers State (11) Saturday in Claremore, Okla. Freshman defender Kobe Coleman, of Georgetown, Texas, was nominated for Defensive Player of the Week after the Tigers (1-01) allowed one goal in their first two games, including a 1-1 draw on Aug. 30 on the road against Dallas Baptist (1-0-1).

Oklahoma Baptist senior Jesus Andrade and Southern Nazarene junior Jovanny Hernandez shared Co-Offensive Player of the Week Honors. Harding junior Christian Ramos was named Defender of the Wweek and Harding senior Michael Wasson was named Goalkeeper of the Week. Oklahoma Baptist’s Italo Vichiatto and Southern Nazarene’s Bojan

Tolmac were also nominated for the defensive award, while Oklahoma Baptist’s Parker Lawter and Southern Nazarene’s Reagan Haydon were nominated for the goalkeeper award.

Webster opened her junior campaign by registerin­g the 10th shutout of her career with six saves in Ouachita’s 4-0 victory a week ago at home against Missouri Western State (1-1) in the MIAA/GAC Challenge. She also made six saves in the Tigers’ 2-0 loss to Emporia State (2-0) in Searcy on Sunday. Southern Nazarene’s Ashlyn Pritchett was also nominated.

Thomas recorded a goal and an assist in the victory against Missouri Western. She assisted on the first goal of the game with a through ball to sophomore Carmen Scott, of Garland, Texas, in the seventh minute. She scored on her own from 12 yards out in the 12th minute. Also nominated was Southern Nazarene’s Kelsi Bussert.

Southern Nazarene senior Kiara Rodriguez was named Defender of the Week.

The Tigers are scheduled for a road match tonight against Northeaste­rn State (2-0) in Tahlequah, Okla. They are next scheduled to face Texas A&M Internatio­nal (10) on Sunday in Dallas.

The men’s team was scheduled for two home matches this weekend against Delta State (0-2) today and Mississipp­i College (11) on Sunday. Both matches have been moved to Texas A&M-Texarkana due to inclement weather forecast for southern Arkansas. Ouachita will meet Delta State at 5 p.m. today and Mississipp­i College at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The women’s cross country team is scheduled to participat­e in the University of Central Arkansas Cross Country Challenge on Saturday in Conway.
