Henderson golf teams in action

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Henderson State’s men’s golf team claimed fourth place Tuesday in the Mule Invitational, while the women’s team moved up three spots on the final day of the Northeastern State Classic to take eighth place overall.

The men’s team also made a move up the leaderboard on the final day of the tournament hosted this week by Central Missouri. The Reddies entered the third round in 13th place.

The team compiled an 8-under-par score of 272 Tuesday to jump nine places and place fourth overall in the first event of the season. The 272 posted on Tuesday was the best single round posted by any team at the event on either day.

Misfortune befell the Reddies on Monday, when Mitchell Ford shot a 6-under-par 64 in the second round, but was disqualified due to an error on his scorecard. The scoring blip cost Henderson 12 strokes and dropped them into 13th overall heading into Tuesday.

The Reddies were paced by Cameron McRae, who shot the single best round of the tournament by any individual player with a 7-under 63. He had eight birdies in the round — four on the front nine and four on the back nine — to finish in a tie for 14th.

Ford was No. 2 for Henderson after shooting, officially, his best round of the event with a 3-under 67. Ford had four birdies on the day.

Behind him was Kevin Boutier, who shot an even-par 70 and finished with 14 pars in the third round to tie for 18th. Trey DePriest tied his best round of the tournament with a 2-over 72 and Nick Shapiro posted a 5-over 75.

Henderson improved its score from the second round by 23 strokes and finished the three-day event with a score of 14-over

854.

Washburn won the Mule Invitational with a team score of

5-over 845.

The Reddies return to action on Monday and Tuesday when they play at the Northeastern State Classic in Tahlequah, Okla.

The Reddie women shot a 310 on Tuesday to finish in eighth place in Tahlequah with a two-day score of 623.

Luisa Gartmann carded the best round for the Reddies as she shot 3-over-par 75. Gartmann improved her score by 10 strokes from Monday.

Both Taylor Loeb and Sydney Stiener shot 6-over 78 in the second round to finish as Henderson’s No. 2 and No. 3 scorers. Taylor Reed posted a 7-over 79 on the day and Hanna Brauburger carded an 8-over 80 to round out the participants for the Reddies.

Four players — Loeb, Brauburger, Reed and Stiener — each shot 157 for the event to tie for 27th place overall.

Henderson was the second-highest finisher among the five Great American Conference teams in the event. Oklahoma Christian won the event by posting a 36-hole score of 594.

The Reddies’ next tournament is scheduled for Oct. 1-2, when they travel to Edmond, Okla., to compete at Central Oklahoma and RCB Bank’s UCO-RCB Classic.
