Fountain Lake rolls Dover in shutout

FOUNTAIN LAKE — Fountain Lake will take an undefeated record into conference play following a dominant performanc­e at home Friday against Dover.

The Cobras (3-0) scored 28 points in the first quarter and led, 35-0, at halftime to enable the clock to run for the duration of the second half under the Arkansas Activities Associatio­n’s mercy rule.

Senior Andrew Roberson averaged 13.1 yards per carry for 118 yards on nine carries, including a 54yard touchdown. Classmate Kyle Fortner added a touchdown and 46 yards on eight carries.

A week after accounting for three touchdowns on offense and three intercepti­ons on defense, senior Ahman Johnson made just one catch for nine yards. He got on the scoreboard again with a 32-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Junior quarterbac­k Ian Lacy spread the ball around to six different receivers on 7-for-11 passing for 71 yards and a touchdown. Senior Joe Murphy caught the 10-yard score and made four tackles on defense.

Senior Colson Simpson ran twice for 14 yards and a touchdown. Senior Dylan Wasson gained 29 yards on seven carries.

Senior Ethan Roberson led the defense with six tackles. The Cobras saw 19 different players make tackles on defense.

Simpson made four tackles and caught an intercepti­on. Andrew Roberson and sophomore Asa Westerman also recovered fumbles.

Fountain Lake will open 4A-7 conference play on the road Friday at Joe T. Robinson (2-1) in Little Rock. The Senators were ranked No. 2 in Class 4A in the most recent Arkansas Sports Media High School Football Poll.

Magazine 50, Cutter Morning Star 26

Cutter Morning Star struggled to slow the offense of visiting Magazine Friday in a 50-26 home loss at Eagle Field.

The Eagles (1-2) were coming off of a 46-12 victory against Rose Bud (0-3). The Rattlers (1-2) were outscored, 53-6, in their first two games against Bigelow

(3-0) and Mount Ida (3-0).

Cutter Morning Star struck first with a rushing touchdown in the first quarter before Magazine rolled off 22 straight points. The Eagles made it 2212 with a touchdown through the air in the second quarter, but Jacob Hall returned the ensuing kickoff

60 yards for a touchdown.

Caleb Hyatt extended the lead to 34-12 early in the second half with a five-yard rushing touchdown. The Eagles answered with a touchdown on their next drive to make it 36-18.

A 20-yard rushing touchdown by Hyatt gave the visitors a 42-18 lead midway through the third quarter. A 51-yard rushing touchdown made the score

42-26 after the next possession.

Tatum Scott scored from one yard out in the fourth quarter for the final touchdown of the game. Hyatt’s 2-point conversion set the final.

Junior Matthew Cook finished with five catches for 208 yards. He made touchdown catches of 67 and

79 yards.

Junior Tyler Mace added touchdowns of 48 yards and 52 yards. Mace made 19 tackles on defense, while Cook made 11.

Cutter Morning Star is scheduled to start

2A-5 conference play on Friday at home against Poyen (3-0).

Mount Ida 28, Magnet Cove 7

MOUNT IDA — Mount Ida remained undefeated Friday with a 28-7 victory at home against Magnet Cove.

The Lions (3-0) led just 14-7 entering the fourth quarter. Magnet Cove (1-2) was also tied in a scoreless game the week prior before suffering a 20-0 loss at home to Atkins (3-0).

Senior running back Jonathan Lagrange capped off a 59-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Senior Oscar Pinedo’s point-after kick gave Mount Ida the 7-0 lead.

Magnet cove took advantage of a blocked punt in the second quarter to set up senior running back Eli Dawson for a three-yard rushing touchdown. Junior Alex Ordonez tied the game at 7-7 with his own kick.

Mount Ida struck again on its first possession of the second half. Senior running back Cade Jackson put the Lions back ahead on a 35-yard rushing touchdown.

Lagrange scored again from two yards out early in the fourth quarter. Gage Dyer made the final touchdown of the game on a 13-yard run with four minutes left to play.

Lagrange averaged 7.1 yards per carry for 114 yards on 16 carries. Senior Tyler Hamilton ran 10 times for 107 yards, an average of 10.7 yards per carry. Jackson averaged 12.8 yards per carry for 115 yards on nine rushes.

The Lions ran for 373 yards on 42 carries for an average of 8.9 yards per rushing attempt.

Mount Ida, ranked No. 1 in Class 2A in the most recent Arkansas Sports Media High School Football Poll, is scheduled to begin 2A-7 conference play Fri-

day at home against Mineral Springs (3-0). The Lions are scheduled for a state championsh­ip game rematch at No. 2 Foreman (3-0) on Oct. 12.

Magnet Cove is set to host England (1-2) in a crucial early-season 2A-5 conference tilt on Friday.
