A Jessieville man was arrested Friday morning on a felony warrant after DNA evidence found at the scene of a 2016 burglary was allegedly matched to him.

Michael Shane Diggs, 40, of

108 Dovetail St., was taken into custody at his residence shortly before 10:30 a.m. and charged with residential burglary, punishable by up to

20 years in prison. He was being held on $50,000 bond and a parole hold and appeared Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on May 9, 2016, a local woman filed a report with the Garland County Sheriff’s Department stating her home in the 5300 block of Park Avenue had been broken into and a bass guitar and two iPads were taken. The total value of the stolen items was estimated at $1,400.

The victim told investigators several items inside her home had been moved around and she found two items, including a used syringe and glass smoking pipe, that she had never seen before and did not belong to her. The syringe and pipe were both found in a walkin closet in the master bedroom.

The syringe and pipe were both submitted to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for DNA analysis. On Sept. 12, investigators received the lab report allegedly matching the DNA found on the items to a known convicted felon, identified as Diggs, so a warrant was issued for his arrest.
