GOP sells its soul

Dear editor:

Two rebuttals:

1. To Mary Robinson (Sept. 13 issue), ignorance does not deserve a response because ignorance produces evil things.

2. To Mike Williams (Sept. 15 issue), there are good reasons to be critical of the anonymous Op-Ed, but Bob Woodward is a respected journalist who does hours and hours of research before writing (his honest record was seen during the Nixon debacle).

Also, Mike’s agreeing that Trump does “stretch the truth at times” is quite an understatement, after unquestionable sources record at least 4,000 before-the-public lies since he took office (and several during the campaign of 2016). Then when Mike states that Trump is “maybe foolish sometimes,” the readers get another glimpse at a supposed-leader of the greatest nation on Earth who has made our nation less great in many ways since his inauguration.

Yes, the economy has grown more in some ways since it began its economy revival under President Obama (remember that the unemployment rate was already down to 4 percent when Obama left office), but wealth is not the only thing that makes a nation “great.” Principles used to count for a lot. Now the GOP, though disagreeing with much of Trump’s schemes, is selling its soul for a mess of porridge. John W. “Doc” Crawford Hot Springs
