FL, Bismarck take 3A-5 district golf titles
GLENWOOD — Fountain Lake and Bismarck took first place in the boys’ and girls’ competitions, respectively, during the 3A-5 district golf tournament Wednesday hosted by Centerpoint at the Glenwood Country Club.
The district title automatically qualified the Cobras to participate in the Class 3A boys’ state tournament on Oct. 2 at Burns Park Golf Course in North Little Rock. They finished with a team score of 262.
Christopher Desfassiaux led Fountain Lake with a round of 81, while Zach Redifer carded an 84. Lachlan Murray rounded out the team score with a 97.
“Zach and Christopher played a very good round of golf to help us accomplish one of our goals of winning the conference championship,” said Fountain Lake golf coach Michael Blees. “Now, onto state to finish our goals and year.”
Bismarck edged out Centerpoint for the other automatic berth, 282-284, to the state tournament. Prescott’s Tyler Doucet medaled with a 1-over-par 73.
Jacob Loy led Bismarck with a round of 77. Kaden Owens led the Knights with a score of 86.
Doucet, Owens and Prescott’s Carter Neal qualified to compete as individuals at state, along with Jessieville’s Michael Vanglider.
“This is our first trip to Burns Park in North Little Rock,” Blees said. “Neither the boys nor myself have ever played there. We will go down and play a practice round and then we will do the best that we can do to represent Fountain Lake and Garland County.”
Other teams included Smackover, who finished fourth with a team score of 291; Jessieville,
311; Glen Rose, 340; Haskell Harmony Grove,
370; and Fouke, 381.
“Baptist Prep won 4A last year and they dropped back to 3A,” Blees said. “I really do not know what to expect, but we will put up the best fight we can.
Makenna Norris medaled with a round of 85 for Bismarck’s championship girls team. Also on the team are Gloria Berry, Hannah Collie and Erin Fendley.
The 3A state girls’ tournament is scheduled for Thursday at the Mountain Ranch Golf Club in Fairfield Bay. Bismarck finished with a team score of 278 and Smackover qualified for state with a score of 321.
Kaydra Fox led third-place Centerpoint with a round of 95. Fox and teammate Keasha Owens joined Prescott’s Kamryn and Jessieville’s Kelsey Saveall as individual qualifiers for state.
The Lady Cobras were led by Camille McDaniel and Sydney Mungle.
“The girls put in a ton of effort throughout the year,” Blees said. “We just did not perform to our ability today. We will perform better next season.”
