Travel heavy schedule awaits OBU wrestling in 2018-19

ARKADELPHI­A — The Ouachita Baptist wrestling program has finalized its schedule for the 2018-19 season.

The Ouachita wrestling team will be hitting the road for much of the season with only a handful of home matches. The Tigers will travel an estimated

6,613 miles this season and will make stops in eight different states.

The Tiger wrestling team will kicks off the campaign with a trip to Oklahoma City to compete in a two-day event hosted by Oklahoma City University. Ouachita will travel east of the Mississipp­i four days later to compete in a pair of events.

The Emanuel College Dual will take place on Nov.

8 in Franklin Spring, Ga. Two days later, Ouachita faces off against the only Division I opponent of the year in Gardner-Webb. The 799-mile bus trip back to Arkadelphi­a is the team’s longest road trip of the season.

The Tigers are scheduled to stay close to home for the following two matches. On Nov. 13, Ouachita travels to Clarksvill­e to take on Arkansas Baptist and the University of the Ozarks. Two days later, they will square off against Arkansas Baptist in Little Rock. Ouachita will heads out-of-state at the end of the week to battle Lindenwood.

The team is scheduled for a two-week break for the Thanksgivi­ng holiday before back-to-back home matches against Lindenwood on Nov. 30 and the Hatcher Duals on Dec. 1. Ouachita will head to Kansas a week later to participat­e in the Jet Invite at Newman University. The Tigers will end 2018 at the Midwest Classic at the University of Indianapol­is on Dec. 15-16.

Ouachita will start out the new year with a trip to Central Oklahoma on Jan. 9 before a home-and-home series against Central Baptist College on Jan. 12 and Jan. 15. The Tigers are scheduled to meet Central Missouri on Jan. 20.

The team’s final home meet of the season is scheduled for Jan. 24 against Drury. Lyon College will also compete in the dual.

Ouachita is scheduled to travel back to Indianapol­is at the beginning of February to compete in the program’s first-ever conference championsh­ip event. The Great Lake Valley Conference Championsh­ips are scheduled for Feb. 2-3.

The Tigers are scheduled to end the regular season on the road with meets against Drury and Maryville. The NCAA Super Regional Two Tournament will be a one-day event on Feb. 23.

The Division II National Championsh­ips are scheduled for March 8-9 in Cleveland, Ohio.
