Oaklawn-raced 3-year-olds prominent on Parx card

Parx Racing in Pennsylvan­ia will present two Grade 1 events for 3-yearolds Saturday and Oaklawn Park-raced horses figure to be major factors in both.

Bravazo, a Jan. 13 entry-level allowance winner in Hot Springs for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, is entered in the $1 million Pennsylvan­ia Derby, while Wonder Gadot is entered in the $1 million Cotillion Stakes for fillies. Wonder Gadot finished second, beaten a nose, in the Grade 3 $400,000 Fantasy Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on April 13 at Oaklawn.

Following his Oaklawn victory, Bravazo won the Grade 2 $400,000 Risen Star Stakes on Feb. 17 at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans and competed in all three Triple Crown events, finishing second in the Preakness. Bravazo surpassed $1 million in career earnings in his last start, a thirdplace finish in the Grade 1 $1.25 million Travers Stakes on Aug. 25 at Saratoga.

Bravazo is scheduled to break from post 10 in the projected 10-horse Pennsylvan­ia Derby field and carry equal top weight of 122 pounds, including jockey Luis Saez. Bravazo is 6-1 on the morning line.

Probable post time for the 1 1/8-mile Pennsylvan­ia Derby, which goes as race

11, is 4:45 p.m.

Lukas, Oaklawn’s leading trainer in

1987 and 2011, won the 2013 Pennsylvan­ia Derby with Will Take Charge, who was named the country’s champion male that year. Will Take Charge also won Oaklawn’s $150,000 Smarty Jones Stakes and Grade 2 $600,000 Rebel Stakes in 2013.

Wonder Gadot (6-1) finished 10th in the Travers, but she had beaten males in the first two legs of the Canadian Triple Crown. Wonder Gadot also finished second, beaten a half-length by division leader Monomoy Girl, in the Grade 1 $1 million Kentucky Oaks May 4 at Churchill Downs.

Wonder Gadot is scheduled to break from post 4 under Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez and carry 119 pounds. Monomoy Girl, trained by Oaklawn regular Brad Cox, is the 3-5 program favorite and 124-pound co-high weight for the 1 1/16-mile Cotillion.

Probable post time for the Cotillion, which goes as race 10, is 3:55 p.m. (Central).

Other Oaklawn-raced horses entered on the undercard include Seven Trumpets in the Grade 3 $300,000 Gallant Bob Stakes at 6 furlongs and

6-5 program favorite Collected in the

$150,000 Pa Derby Champion Stakes at

1 1/16 miles.

Seven Trumpets ran seventh in the

$500,000 Grade 3 Southwest Stakes on Feb. 19, one of Oaklawn’s four major Kentucky Derby preps.

Collected finished fourth as the favorite in the 2016 Southwest for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert and was a finalist for champion older male last year after winning four consecutiv­e stakes races, including the Grade 1 $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar Thoroughbr­ed Club.
