Hot Springs Village man honored in new book

-

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — A recently published book by Nancy Hendricks called “Popular Fads and Crazes in American History” honors longtime Villager Ed Lampman for his contributions to its creation.

The dedication at the front reads, “To Ed Lampman (1917-2016) with thanks for a walk through the century.”

Linda Lampman Ragsdale, daughter of Ed Lampman, said she was very pleased with the acknowledgment of her father, who passed away two years ago at age 99. “The book appears so wonderful and interesting,” she said. “I am so honored — as is our entire family — by the dedication to dad.”

Ed Lampman and his wife Mary Lou moved to Hot Springs Village from Nashville, Tenn., in 1989. Hendricks met him as a fellow member of the Rotary Club of Hot Springs Village, and often visited him at Good Samaritan.

“We always had a lot to talk about, especially show business, since his father owned a theater. Mr. Lampman said that when he was a teenager, his father’s theater switched from vaudeville to movies. He corrected some impressions, like that vaudeville was the same as burlesque. When I was writing the book, he was such a valuable resource to everything that happened in the 20th century. Sometimes it was like he was going back in time to see it all again as a young man. What an honor to make that trip with him,” Hendricks said.

The book is a history of the United States from colonial times to the present as told through the fads and crazes average people enjoyed through the decades. It is published by Greenwood and is available on Amazon.
