Wolves gearing up for tournament

PEARCY — Lake Hamilton almost swept its matches with Hot Springs and Sheridan on Thursday after a competitiv­e matchup with Russellvil­le on Monday.

Jacob Praetzel swept his Hot Springs opponent 8-0 and won again against Sheridan, 8-2. Lucas Amerson took two 8-2 victories on Thursday.

Cole Plyler and Jace Robbins continued their strong doubles form with a pair of 8-0 victories. Colby Puckett and Hagen Russell defeated their Hot Springs opponents, 8-1, and picked up an 8-3 victory against Sheridan.

Jovana Cetnik took an 8-2 win in singles play against Hot Springs and an 8-0 win against Sheridan. Reagan Hickam took a close 8-6 victory in her match against Sheridan. The Lady Wolves dropped one singles match against Hot Springs.

Hickam played doubles against Hot Springs, earning an 8-0 victory with Christian Harris. Harris and Payton Hefner teamed up for an 8-1 win against Sheridan.

rez bested their Hot Springs opponents, 8-4. Perez teamed with Maddy Atkinson for an 8-2 victory in doubles against Sheridan.

“Both teams played well,” said Lake Hamilton coach Lewis Hunt. “We have one more week on tennis, and then the conference tournament is Oct. 1-2.

“Both of the boys’ doubles teams have a great chance to advance in the conference tournament and potentiall­y qualify for the state tournament.”

Lakeside will host the

5A-South tournament on Oct.

1-2. Lake Hamilton and Lakeside will host the Class 5A state tournament the following week on Lakeside’s campus and at the Hot Springs Country Club.

The Lady Wolves earned four wins against Russellvil­le, sweeping the doubles matches. The team of Hickam and Harris earned an 8-1 victory, while Josie Brown and Denise Gui won their match, 6-1. Ludow and Perez won their match, 8-2. Hefner won the team’s only singles point, 6-1.

The boys’ team split its matches against Russellvil­le. Plyler and Robbins earned an 8-5 win, while the team of Chase Berry and Matt Richardson earned an 8-6 victory.

Puckett and Russell tied,

8-8, with their opponents, Hunter Howell and Dominick Deaton. The Cyclone team won the tiebreaker, 7-2.

Austin Praetzel earned the Wolves’ only singles point,

6-1. Jacob Praetzel suffered the closest singles defeat of the day at 8-6.

Lake Hamilton will be back at home on Monday to host conference opponent Benton.
