Switzerlan­d draws rail in Maryland

Switzerlan­d, a two-time allowance winner this year at Oaklawn Park, drew the rail this week for the Grade 3 $250,000 Frank J. DeFrancis Memorial Dash Stakes today at Laurel Park in Maryland for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen.

Probable post time for the 6-furlong DeFrancis Memorial Dash, which goes as race 10, is 4 p.m.

After leaving Hot Springs, Switzerlan­d stretched his winning streak to four in the Grade 3 $150,000 Maryland Sprint Stakes on May 19 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore before finishing fifth in his last start, the Grade 1 $350,000 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap on July 28 at Saratoga Race Course in New York.

Oaklawn stakes winners Gentlemen’s Bet and Ivan Fallunoval­ot won the DeFrancis Memorial Dash in 2015 and 2016, respective­ly.

Scuba, another Oaklawn-raced horse, is entered in the $100,000 Laurel Turf Club Stakes on the DeFrancis undercard. Probable post time for the 1 1/2-mile event, which goes as race 8, is 3 p.m.

Salt Bae, runner-up in the $150,000 Purple Martin Stakes for

3-year-old female sprinters March 24 at Oaklawn, is entered in today’s $100,000 Dogwood Stakes at Churchill Downs. Probable post time for the 7-furlong Dogwood, which goes as race 10, is 4:26 p.m.

Diamondcoa­t, who broke her maiden on March 30 at Oaklawn, is entered in today’s Grade 3 $300,000 Charles Town Oaks for

3-year-old fillies Saturday at Charles Town in West Virginia. Probable post time for the 7-furlong Charles Town Oaks, which goes as race 11, is 9:15 p.m.

Owner Ron Paolucci said Oaklawn-raced Fuhriously Kissed was an allowance winner Wednesday at Thistledow­n in Ohio. The race was a prep for the Grade 1 $500,000 Spinster Stakes on Oct. 7 at Keeneland Race Course in Kentucky.

Fuhriously Kissed finished second in two maiden special weights events in 2016 at Oaklawn before being claimed by Paolucci for $62,500 March 15 at Gulfstream Park in Florida. In Fuhriously Kissed’s first start for her new connection­s, she ran third in the Grade 1 $700,000 Apple Blossom Handicap for older fillies and mares on April 13 at Oaklawn.

Also pointing for the Spinster is Eskimo Kisses, who broke her maiden and won a first-level allowance race this year at Oaklawn. Eskimo Kisses won the Grade 1 $600,000 Alabama Stakes for

3-year-old fillies Aug. 18 at Saratoga in her last start.
