Lakeside handles Fairview in junior high football

Lakeside took care of business on Thursday with a 34-6 conference victory against visiting Camden Fairview on Chick Austin Field at Lakeside Stadium.

Jordan Mills was 4-for-8 passing for

172 yards and three touchdowns for the Rams (3-1, 2-0). Chase Cross finished with

108 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Brock Garner had a touchdown and 65 receiving yards.

Noah Duvall led Lakeside on the ground with 57 rushing yards. Cross added 46 yards rushing and Tyler Maynard ran for 32 yards.

Andrew Degrasse was 4-for-5 on point-after kicks.

Duvall, Hayden Hubbard and Pierce Smalley tied for the team lead in tackles with five apiece. Cross also returned an intercepti­on for a touchdown.

“We were balanced, offensivel­y, running and throwing the ball,” said Lakeside head junior high coach Lewis Jolly. “We hit some big plays passing. Camden played very well against our run game.

“Defensivel­y, we played very well and were in their backfield all night with multiple players making big plays. Special teams continue to improve with a good punt return, a blocked punt and solid coverage on kickoffs.”

Lakeside will travel to Magnolia on Thursday.

* The eighth-grade team won, 8-6, against Fairview on Thursday to improve to 4-0 this season, including 2-0 in conference play.

Jolly said the eighth-grade Rams made a “very strong showing” in the victory.
