Lady Trojans down Fair in straight sets at home

LITTLE ROCK — Hot Springs walked away with a pair of wins Thursday night as both varsity and junior varsity volleyball squads defeated J.A. Fair in straight sets.

The varsity squad took the first two sets rather definitive­ly, winning 25-8 and 25-9. Fair (0-10, 0-8 5A-South) battled back in the third, but the Lady Trojans (4-6, 3-5) ended up on top, 25-15.

Jamie Broadway led the offense with

10 kills, and Breunna Collins and Xavia McCoy had seven each.

In the junior varsity match, the Lady Trojans took the first set, 25-10, but Fair kept it close in the second with Hot Springs winning, 25-20.

Jaylia Reed led the team with six kills, Jurnee Hicks had four and Annemarie VanOverste­eg had three kills and a block.

The Lady Trojans host Texarkana (3-6,

3-5) on Tuesday.

Junior Rams dominate El Dorado on A.C.E. appreciati­on night Lakeside’s junior high and eighth-grade teams each took straight-set victories on Thursday at home against El Dorado.

The junior Rams (17-8-1, 4-0) controlled play with set scores of 25-10 and 25-12. They were led by Viview Mardis with 10 service points, one ace, six assists and three digs.

Annelise McAlister hit nine service points, two aces, two assists, two kills and two digs. Sarah Porter also hit two kills.

Kaitlyn Threadgill and Kate Foreman held down the backcourt with nine and six digs, respective­ly.

The volleyball teams helped collect food Thursday for Lakeside’s All Created Equal unit.

The Rams will travel to Malvern on Monday for a non-conference matchup.

* The eighth-grade team cruised on Thursday to a 25-11, 25-11 win against El Dorado.

Drew Dowdy and Brooklyn Bourland each hit for six service points for the Rams

(8-6, 3-0). Bourland also had two aces. Grace Rucksthul had five service points and three aces.
