J D Wacaster
BONNERDALE — J D Wacaster, 86, of Bonnerdale, passed away in his sleep on Friday, September 21, 2018.
He is predeceased by his parents, Dallas and Cecil Wacaster; and his brother, Billy J. Wacaster. He is survived and will be sorely missed by his wife, Pat Wacaster; his brother, Lloyd Wacaster (Amelia); his sons, Gerry (Diane) and David (Jackie) Wacaster; grandson, Eric (Erica) Wacaster; granddaughter, Kathryn (Daryl) White; and great-grandchildren, Jonathon White, Paige Wacaster, Dallas White, Paisley Wacaster and Andrew Wacaster.
J D was a 1950 graduate of Lakeside High School and strongly believed in public service. He was a proud Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. After his marriage to Pat in 1956, they had two sons, Gerry and David. Soon after David was born, J D became a member of the Hot Springs Fire Department. During his employment there he also taught courses in fire science at Garland County Community College.
His dedication to public service did not end when he retired after 26 years of service. He was a Justice of the Peace for Hot Spring County and a member of its Quorum Court for many years, continually helping to make decisions that benefited not only his constituents of District 11, but also all citizens of Hot Spring County. A member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, always focusing on his devotion to Christ.
Even with all of these civic and spiritual responsibilities, J D remained a devoted husband, father and “Pawpaw,” constantly placing his family first and ensuring they were happy, healthy, and that they always knew he loved them unconditionally.
J D left a permanent mark on this world, affecting so many through his unwavering determination and selflessness. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him, but those who mourn his loss will take comfort in the fact that they are better people having known him.
There will be a public visitation from 6-8 p.m. today at Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Bonnerdale with Brother Dale Hamilton officiating. Graveside services will continue immediately after in Mazarn Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Eric Wacaster, Andrew Wacaster, Dallas White, Darrell Davis, Scott Wacaster and Ron Wacaster, with all retired and active members of the Hot Springs Fire Department acting as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mazarn Chapel Cemetery Fund.
