Wolves roll to more than 500 yards of offense for conference victory

LITTLE ROCK — Lake Hamilton scored 42 points in the first half Friday en route to a 42-6 victory against 6A-West conference opponent Little Rock Hall.

Junior running back Malik Brewer ran 15 times for 163 of Lake Hamilton’s 437 rushing yards. Junior Dealond Lewis ran nine times for 116 yards, while senior Blake Davis had 60 carries on four carries. Brewer scored three touchdowns and Lewis scored once.

Sophomore quarterbac­k Layne Warrick was 4-for-9 passing for 75 yards and a 27-yard touchdown to Lewis. Warrick had three carries for 22 yards and another touchdown. Senior Kadin Kemp also caught two passes for 38 yards.

Sophomore Izaiah Clenney led 18 tacklers for the Wolves (4-1, 1-1) with seven of his own. Seniors Ray Hamp and Kanaan Williams and junior Braden Qualls had six apiece.

Qualls and senior C.J. Reynolds each made a sack. Senior Alex Beverlin also made an intercepti­ons.

Hall is now 1-4 overall and 0-2 in 6A-West play. Lake Hamilton is scheduled to travel to Russellvil­le (3-2, 1-1) on Friday.

Trojans fall short of Hope

HOPE — Hot Springs took its first lead of the season on Friday, but the Trojans were unable to hold off the Bobcats in their 5A-South matchup.

Hot Springs (0-5, 0-2) had a 12-0 lead before Hope (1-4, 1-1) for on the scoreboard on a 94-yard passing play late in the first quarter. The Bobcats went ahead, 13-12, on a 41-yard punt return for a touchdown and an extra point kick late in the first half.

Hope pulled away in the third quarter with touchdown passes of 32 yards and 25 yards from senior Hunter Heliums to classmate Nikorean Muldrow. The Bobcats took a 26-12 lead into the final quarter.

Hot Springs scored on a passing play in the fourth quarter and added a 2-point conversion to set the final. The Trojans turned the ball over on downs late in the game.

Next up for Hot Springs is another road game on Friday at De Queen (1-4, 1-1). The Leopards won, 21-14, in overtime the previous week against Hope.

Conway Christian cruises at Mountain Pine

MOUNTAIN PINE — The 2A-5 conference favorite, Conway Christian, took control of Friday’s game at Mountain Pine with 42 points in the second and third quarters for a 49-18 win against the Red Devils.

The Eagles (3-2, 2-0) got on the board first with a touchdown and extra point just three minutes into the game. The Red Devils (2-3, 1-1) scored late in the first quarter on a 12-yard touchdown pass from junior Collin Smith to senior Josh Walpole. They still trailed, 7-6, after a failed extra point attempt.

Mountain Pine did not score again until early in the third quarter. Smith scored on a two-yard run to trail, 28-12, after a failed 2-point conversion.

Conway Christian added 21 more points in the quarter. Smith set the final with a 75-yard rushing touchdown in the final minutes of the game.

The Red Devils are scheduled for another road game Friday at Bigelow (3-2, 0-2).

Quitman keeps unbeaten record with defeat of CMS

QUITMAN — The Quitman Bulldogs moved to 5-0 and 2-0 in 2A-5 conference play on Friday with a 37-8 home win against Cutter Morning Star

The Eagles (1-4, 0-2) were within one score at halftime as sophomore quarterbac­k Sam Moore connected with classmate Landon Watson for an

11-yard touchdown in the second quarter. The Bulldogs led, 21-8, after two quarters, but they shut out the Eagles, 16-0, in the second half.

Quitman averaged 6.6 yards per carry for 246 yards and two touchdowns on 37 rushing attempts. Sophomore quarterbac­k Holden Martin was 12-for25 for 106 yards, but he threw for three touchdowns and one intercepti­on.

Moore finished 7-for-21 for 53 yards, one touchdown and two intercepti­ons. Junior running back Matthew Cook was held to 29 yards on 10 carries. Cook also caught four passes for 32 yards.

Junior Cameron Lockhart paced the Eagles’ offense with 63 yards on 14 carries.

Junior Tyler Mace led the visiting defense with

13 tackles.

Cutter Morning Star is scheduled for a home game on Friday against Poyen (3-2, 0-2).

Panthers prevail at Poyen

POYEN — Magnet Cove kept itself in the thick of the 2A-5 conference race Friday with a convincing 35-6 victory at Poyen.

The Panthers (2-3, 1-1) led 28-0 by halftime. Senior running back Eli Dawson got the visitors on the scoreboard in the first quarter with a 35-yard run. A kick from Alex Ordonez made the score 7-0. Junior quarterbac­k Tyler Hodges connected with sophomore Landon Stone for a 55-yard touchdown late in the quarter to double the lead.

Magnet Cove struck again early in the second quarter with a 46-yard touchdown run by senior Trenton Robinson. A 75-yard touchdown play from Hodges to sophomore Devin Frye, along with another kick by Ordonez, put the Panthers up, 28-0, late in the second quarter.

The Panthers scored their final touchdown in the fourth quarter on a three-yard run by Dawson. Poyen (3-2, 0-2) scored for the only time midway through the final quarter.

Hodges’ two long touchdowns were his only completion­s of the game. He was 2-for-6 for 130 yards. Robinson ran four times for 82 yards.

Dawson finished with 75 yards on 12 carries. Stone had 69 yards on 11 carries.

Seniors Ty Dawson, Cade Asher and Tyler McJunkins led the Panther defense with 10, nine and seven tackles, respective­ly. Ordonez intercepte­d a pass and sophomore Carson Lane recovered a fumble.
