Lady Eagles sweep White Hall, Quest

- JAMES LEIGH

Cutter Morning Star’s volleyball team had a productive week, taking down a Class 5A team while going 2-1 since Sept. 27.

St. Joseph (14-1, 7-0 2A-Central) defeated the Lady Eagles (9-6, 5-2), 3-1, in Conway last week before the Cutter Morning Star took 3-0 victories over White Hall (1-11, 1-5 5A-Central) and Quest Academy (0-8, 0-7) on Monday and Tuesday.

“My girls battled,” said CMS head coach Brittany Senn of last Thursday’s road game. “They never quit. They handled the emotional swings of the game. We just made too many serve reception errors. St. Joe is a very good team and

very well-coached, and we can’t afford to give them points.”

St. Joseph took it to Cutter Morning Star early, taking the first two sets with wins of 25-22 and 25-12, but the Lady Eagles forced a fourth set, defeating the

2A-Central conference foe, 26-24. They were unable to come out ahead in the fourth set however, falling 25-20 to give the Lady Bulldogs the win.

Junior mid Trinity Raper finished with a double-double with 15 blocks and

11 service points while tallying nine kills in the match.

“Trinity Raper had an amazing game,” Senn said. “She was everywhere on the net. She has improved so much this year. She is someone to watch. She has a bright future with volleyball.”

Junior setter Haley Scott also had 11 service points with five blocks, seven assists, two kills and two digs. Classmate Kara Kinkaid also had a strong game with six service points, five kills and five digs.

“Kara Kinkaid played well,” Senn said. “I challenged her after that second set to be the leader that she is. She responded and made some clutch plays in that 3rd set to help us win it.”

Kendyll Knott-Debord added nine service points with three kills and three blocks.

“My freshman Kendyll Knott Debord came up clutch in that third set to win it for us with her serves,” Senn said. “She is going to only get better and better.”

The Lady Eagles took control against

the 5A Lady Bulldogs, winning in three sets on Monday, 25-18, 25-12, 25-17.

Brecken Knott-Debord led in the service game in Tuesday’s match against Quest Academy at Eagle Fieldhouse. The sophomore had two aces among her 26 service points.

The Lady Eagles dominated all three sets, winning 25-9, 25-4, 25-3.

Raper had 15 service points with three aces along with one kill, and Kinkaid added eight service points.

Cutter Morning Star is scheduled for back-to-back home matches next week. The Lady Eagles will host Waldron

(8-9-2, 7-4, 3A-West) on Monday and conference foe Maumelle Charter (5-13,

3-5) on Tuesday.
