Traffic stop leads to felony charges

- STEVEN MROSS

A routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest Thursday morning of a Royal man on multiple felony charges after meth and a large amount of prescription pills were allegedly found in his possession.

Frank James Radley, 26, who lists an Albert Pike

Road address, was taken into custody shortly before 9:30 a.m. in the

3200 block of Airport Road and charged with possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver, clonazepam, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, possession of meth with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 10 years, and possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver, Ambien, punishable by up to six years.

Radley was also charged with misdemeanor counts of driving on a suspended driver’s license and driving with no or expired tags and cited for no liability insurance and improper turn at an intersection.

He was being held on $11,000 bond and appeared Friday morning via video in Garland County District Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges. His bond was increased by Judge Ralph Ohm to $35,000 and a felony review hearing set for Nov. 26.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Roy Elliott was assisting Cpl. Clayton Green with a traffic stop on a green Acura after Green noted it was unlicensed and made an improper turn at Airport and Westwego Terrace.

Elliott made contact with the driver, identified as Radley, and noted he was “fidgeting in the vehicle” and appeared nervous. When asked to exit the vehicle, Radley reportedly moved a black bag to the back seat before getting out.

When asked, Radley reportedly denied having any weapons or anything illegal and consented to letting Elliott search the black bag, telling him the bag was not his and he had just got it from an auction.

In searching the black bag, the deputies allegedly found a small baggie with

0.8 gram of what later tested positive for meth, pill bottles containing 358 clonazepam pills and 10 Ambien pills. Also found in the vehicle were three cellphones.

It was noted some of the pill bottles were prescribed to another person and some of the bottles had the name scratched out.

Radley was previously arrested April 30 on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance, meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia stemming from a traffic stop. He was later released on

$7,000 bond and pleaded not guilty to the charges in Garland County Circuit Court on July 3. A disposition hearing is set for Nov. 13.
