ROYAL — Patrick Henry Egleston, age 93, of Royal, passed away on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018.

He was born on Nov. 17, 1924, in Montgomery County, to Ethel Mae and Horace Egleston; and was the last survivor of his brothers and sisters: Irma, Irene, Jake, Bill, Charlie, Jack and John.

As part of the “Greatest Generation,” Pat demonstrated his dedication as a sergeant in the Army Infantry, serving in extensive campaigns in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded a European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Stars; a World War II Victory Medal; a Good Conduct Medal; and three Overseas Bars.

Returning to the U.S., Pat finished a high school education that the war had disrupted. He later also graduated from Diesel School, in Memphis, Tenn.; and thereafter returned to his Arkansas family farm and farming and logging endeavors. He also learned his craft as a master carpenter and builder from his father, carrying on the family tradition.

In December of 1971, Pat was blessed with a wife, Mary Ellen, and her two daughters.

As a farmer, Pat loved tending to his cattle, fruit trees and chicken farm; but also spent countless hours in his workshop, lovingly tooling his bird boxes, rocking chairs, bowls and furniture.

Pat leaves behind his wife, Mary-Ellen Egleston, and daughter, Mary (his daughter Ellen was deceased 2018) and sonin-law Simon; and his grandchildren Blake, Trevor and Sophia.

They all give heartfelt thanks to St.Vincent/Arkansas Hospice, and gratitude for the love and devotion of all healers and caregivers along the way.

Pat also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, near and far; and dear neighbors and friends throughout Arkansas. Patrick requested no service. Each in our own way, we lovingly honor this beautiful human being.
