HS Tech Learning Center announces year-end schedule
The Hot Springs Tech Learning Center has released its November-December schedule:
• Windows 10 Level 1: four classes, Nov. 1, 8, 15, 29, 1-3 p.m. The cost for all four classes is $30. The course is a prerequisite to all advanced Windows courses offered. Students should have a proficiency of the keyboard, mouse skills, and reasonable computer knowledge to register for this course. Students will learn how to navigate through Windows 10, learn use of tiles, change basic settings, use File Explorer to organize files and folders, and use flash drives. The new Microsoft Edge browser will be covered (favorites, reading list, setting start pages). Email choices available in Windows 10 will be discussed (Mail, webmail, Windows Live Mail). Prerequisite: Windows 10 Basics.
• iPhone: Nov. 2, 10 to noon; the cost is $20. This workshop will cover how to use features on the iPhone. Features will include accessing the internet and email, installing apps, using the camera, sending pictures from the camera, using calendar, alarm clock, how to connect to Wi-Fi networks. Students should bring their own iPhone.
• Creating Christmas Cards using Shutterfly: Nov. 5, 10 a.m. to noon and Dec. 3, 1 to 3 p.m.; the cost is $20 per session. Make your own Christmas cards with pictures of family, holiday events, or pets. The workshop will give hands-on help to create cards for every occasion.
• Windows 10 Basics: Nov. 5, 12, 19, 26. The cost is $30. A home computer is not required to enroll in this course, but having a computer is recommended to practice the skills learned in the classroom. Topics that will be covered include parts of the computer, review of mouse usage, turning a computer on/off, taskbar, start menu, desktop icons. WordPad will be used to give the student basics of word processing: tabs/groups, cut/paste/copy, formatting, backspace/delete, selecting text, printing, save/save as. Introduction to internet and email will be included.
• Android Phone: Nov. 7, 10 a.m. to noon, cost $20. The seminar will cover how to use features on Android phones. Features will include accessing the internet and email, installing apps, using the camera, sending pictures from the camera, using calendar, alarm clock, how to connect to Wi-Fi networks. Students should bring their own Android phone.
• File Management: Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to noon; the cost is $20. This workshop introduces basic ways to set up, organize and manage files on your computer. It is appropriate for users of all Windows systems. It is a hands-on workshop and students will use the Windows 10 operating system.
• Managing Photos: Nov. 12, 13, 10 a.m. to noon, and December
11, 12, 10 a.m. to noon; the cost is $25. The workshop will address how to transfer pictures from a camera to a computer, how to organize the pictures into folders, and how to back up the pictures to a flash drive. This is a hands-on workshop and students will use the Windows 10 operating system.
• iPhone Apps: Nov. 13, 2 to 4 p.m.; the cost is $20. The workshop will discuss favorite cellphone apps. Demonstrations will be provided of favorite apps. How to download apps to a cellphone will also be included. Students should bring their own iPhone.
• Creating a Photo Calendar: two sessions, Nov. 19, 20, and Nov.
29, 30; the cost is $25 for each session. The workshop will give hands-on help to create a calendar to use as a gift. Pick the topic and the instructor will help with making the calendar. Attendees will also learn how to “publish” the calendar. Bring pictures to include in the calendar.
• iPhone Travel and Apple Car-play. Nov. 28, 2 to 4 p.m.; the cost is $20. The workshop is primarily working with the iPhone’s Google Maps and Apple’s Car-Play. Similar features are available with Android Auto so students with Android phones could benefit from this workshop.
• One on One Help Sessions: cost $20 per hour, date and time determined by student. These sessions will help on a topic that no workshop/class offers. Students can register on a topic of their choice, and will be matched with a staff member who can provide them with one-on-one help. Bring questions to these sessions.
