Storm leaves more than 3,300 with power

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Entergy Arkansas Inc. said it could be noon today before all power is restored after a line of heavy thunderstorms left more than 3,300 customers in the Hot Springs area without service Halloween evening.

“Due to the thunderstorms along with the high winds that have and continue to move through the area we are experiencing numerous outages,” Entergy said in a message posted on its online outage site at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday.

By 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, the site was reporting 3,317 customers without service.

“Entergy personnel are working to restore service as quickly as safely possible. At this time, we estimate that all service will be restored by noon Thursday (11-1-18). The estimated time of restoration could change as all damage assessments are completed or if other storm activity results in additional outages,” the message said.

One of the largest outages, around 1,000 customers, was concentrated in the Greenwood-West Belding area of Central Avenue. Another, with around 1,600 outages, ran north and south of Lakeside Road, and along Shady Grove Road south of the King Expressway.

In addition to the lightning and high winds, western Garland County was under a flood warning Wednesday night.

At 7:22 p.m., radar indicated light to moderate rainfall continuing across west central and southwest Arkansas after more than 4 inches of rain by Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

“Flooding has been reported in the warned area, and it will take some time for this flooding to recede,” the warning stated.
