HSV woman sentenced for attacks on mother

- STEVEN MROSS

A Hot Springs Village woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday after admitting to violating her probation from a

2017 conviction for attacking her mother by attacking her again earlier this year.

Angela Michelle Shores, 27, who has remained in custody since her last arrest July 25, appeared in Garland County Circuit Court for a revocation hearing and admitted she violated the conditions of her earlier probation when she got arrested again on a felony charge of third-degree domestic battery. She will be given credit for time served.

According to the probable cause affidavit for Shores’ original arrest on Jan. 17, 2017, Shores’ mother, 56, said her daughter, who lived with her, locked her inside a room at her home on Santona Way and began arguing with her. Then she began to hit her with a flashlight while sitting on her chest and destroyed her cellphone so she couldn’t call for help.

She then took her mother’s belt, tied her hands with it, took her to a vehicle and placed her inside it against her will. Then Shores began to drive the vehicle and threatened to kill her mother when she tried to open the car door.

Shores drove them to a residence at Little Blakely Camp, apparently in hopes of staying there. When Shores got out, her mother was able to lock the doors and drive off, eventually making contact with

a Garland County sheriff’s deputy.

While in an ambulance, Shores’ mother complained of difficulty breathing and being in pain. She reportedly had bruises on her right eye, left cheek, left side of her lip, nose, the insides of both of her arms, her chest, breast and ribs. A lump approximately the size of a golf ball was observed on the outside of her left forearm. She was transported to National Park Medical Center for treatment.

Deputies made contact with Shores at a residence in the 100 block of Dovetail Street in Little Blakely Camp and arrested her on a felony charge of second-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and misdemeanor counts of false imprisonment and interference with emergency communication.

On July 18, 2017, Shores pleaded guilty to the felony battery charge and was sentenced to six years’ probation, fined $2,500 and ordered to pay $420 in court costs, while the misdemeanor charges were withdrawn. On July

21, Shores told the court she had moved to a Lonsdale address.

According to the probable cause affidavit regarding her July

25 arrest, Hot Springs Village Police Officer Eduardo Grajeda responded to a disturbance at the mother’s residence where Shores was again reportedly staying and made contact with the mother, who said her daughter was “out of control.”

Her mother said that around 10 p.m. she and another family member got Shores in the bathroom to take a shower. As they were getting her into the shower they saw a small bag of suspected drugs fall out of her pocket.

She said she grabbed the bag and flushed it down the toilet. She said Shores finished her shower and was calming down, but then began to act up again and began yelling and running around the house naked.

She said Shores got a dog leash and began hitting her with it, grabbed her arm and squeezed it hard, then began hitting the other relative. The officer noted a bruise and scratches on the mother’s left arm and above her elbow.

The relative said she saw Shores hitting her mother and attempted to get Shores to stop when she was also attacked. She said Shores started to shove her and slapped her in the face.

She said Shores put both hands around her neck and told her “she will be dead by the morning,” referring to her mother. The officer noted the relative had scratches on her upper arm and a swollen right shoulder.
