Billie S. Bates

JESSIEVILL­E — Billie S. Bates, 64, of Jessievill­e, Ark., passed away Oct. 30, 2018.

She was born Aug, 18, 1954, in Paris, Ark., to J.T. and Billie (Jones) Davis. Billie epitomized the word “caregiver,” caring for family, friends and anyone who needed a nurturing touch and a caring hand.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Vernon Bates.

Loving survivors include her son, Tony Bates (Kathy); and brothers, James Davis (Carolyn) and Samuel Davis (Sandy).

A visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at Caruth Village Funeral Home with a service starting at 10 a.m., officiated by Pastor Sam Ault.

Jimmy D. Draper Sr.

GLEN ROSE — Jimmy Don Draper Sr., 72, of Glen Rose, passed Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, with visitation to follow at Regency Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Carroll Graybeal officiatin­g.

A memorial service for Gail Crince Ethridge, who passed away Oct. 30, 2018, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at CaruthHale Funeral Home in Hot Springs.

Bernard Jefferson III

Bernard “B.J.” Jefferson III, age 30, of Hot Springs, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018.

Funeral service will be noon today, Nov. 3, 2018, at Greater St. Paul Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery.

Vernon L. Neighbors

Vernon Lester Neighbors, age 90, of Hot Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018.

He was born on Dec. 30, 1927, in Royal, the son of the late Walter Neighbors and Velma Cunningham Neighbors. In March of 1991, he married Bonnie Sheets Neighbors. He worked for many years as a machinist for Baker Oil Tools.

Vernon was passionate about the outdoors and feared by anything with fur, feather or fin. He was known for his stories of the “one that got away.” He loved all things John Wayne. He was a Christian and served as an elder and superinten­dent of Mount Olive Community Church.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Bonnie Neighbors; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dewey and Debra Neighbors, of Deer Park, Texas, Rodney and Freda Neighbors, of Hot Springs, and Ricky and Kim Muncrief, of McNeil, Ark.; seven grandchild­ren; 14 great-grandchild­ren; brother, Bennie Neighbors; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Hot Springs, with Brother Clayton Moen and Brother George Vincent officiatin­g.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Lowe Cemetery, Royal.

Pallbearer­s will be: Tanner Neighbors, Tommy Muncrief, Dakota Muncrief, Dustin Morgan, Noah Morgan and Connor Brumley.

Honorary pallbearer­s will be: Dr. Kyle Roper and his compassion­ate staff, the care team of CHI St. Vincent, Hot Springs, the nurses and staff of Arkansas Hospice Inpatient, and special angel Amy.

Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

Joyce M. Scott

MOUNT IDA — Joyce Marie Scott, age 89, of Mount Ida, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018.

She was born June 30, 1929, in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Thomas and Eula Hunnicutt Williams. On Feb. 3, 1950, she was married to Everett Scott, who preceded her in death on April 27, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Floyd Scott.

Joyce worked many years at Whittingto­n’s Drug Store and Black & Standridge Department Store. She also was a seamstress, doing lots of sewing and alteration­s. In her later years, she worked for the Montgomery County Senior Companion Program. She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Maxine Scott, of Hot Springs, and June Barron and her husband, Tom, of Maumelle; two grandchild­ren, Tommy Scott and Joy Pickering and her husband, Jimmy; and her great-granddaugh­ter, Abigale Pickering, all of Jessievill­e.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Faith Tabernacle Church, Mount Ida, with Brother Don Vaughn officiatin­g.

Interment will be in Rocky Valley Cemetery, Mount Ida, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Pallbearer­s will be Galen Burke, Donnie Ellison, David Harmon, David James, Mark Plyler and Joey Swindle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rocky Valley Cemetery, P.O. Box 21, Mount Ida, AR 71957.

Lois I. Stroman

DOVER — Lois Irene Stroman, 58, of Dover, Ark., passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, in Russellvil­le Family Funeral chapel with burial following in Shiloh-Williamson Cemetery in Russellvil­le, Ark.
