Badgers blow out Leopards

MALVERN - Arkadelphi­a put a damper on Malvern’s season finale Friday as the Badgers took a 66-0 win on the Leopards’ senior night.

Four minutes into the first quarter, Zion Hatley set the tone for the opening half as he found the end zone on a twoyard rushing touchdown. Junior quarterbac­k Cannon Turner converted the 2-point play to mark the score, 8-0, for Arkadelphi­a (5-5, 5-2 4A-7)

Moments later, Arkadelphi­a capitalize­d quickly as they recovered the onside kick. Hatley then secured a 15-0 lead for the Badgers as he scored on a 51yard

run for a touchdown with

7:53 on the clock. Malvern (0-10, 0-7) again turned the ball over as the Badgers responded with a 24-yard rushing touchdown brought in by Hatley at the 5:25 mark in the opening period to make it 22-0.

Arkadelphi­a controlled the night in every phase of the game as Kyren Harrison rushed for six yards into the end zone with nine minutes left in the second period. Nearing the half, the Badgers secured a 36-0 lead as Turner scored on a 10-yard run for a touchdown with less than five minutes remaining.

On Arkadelphi­a’s next possession, Turner found K.J. Terry on a 47-yard passing touchdown to make it 45-0.

Malvern fumbled again before the end of the half. With less than two minutes remaining, the Badgers took advantage and responded as Harrison again found the end zone on a

15-yard rushing touchdown to end the first half up, 52-0.

The clock ran in the second half under the Arkansas Activities Associatio­n’s mercy rule. Terry added to the lead with a

25-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Braeden Thomas connected with Caleb Eddy on a 21-yard pass for the final touchdown of the night with

2:35 left in the fourth quarter.
