Mount Ida secures No. 3 seed, home playoff game

MOUNT IDA — Mount Ida needed only 206 yards of offense Thursday to cruise to a 52-6 win against Lafayette County and lock up the 2A-7 conference’s third seed in the Class 2A playoffs.

The Lions (7-2, 5-2) scored 38 points in the second quarter en route to the 52-6 score by halftime. They will next meet the fourth seed from the 2A-8 conference.

Senior Tyler Hamilton got the hosts on the scoreboard first with a rushing touchdown midway through the opening quarter. Hamilton also converted on the 2-point try.

Hamilton added to the lead minutes later on another rushing score. The 2-point attempt failed.

Junior Hunter Davis scored early in the second quarter from 14 yards out. The 2-point conversion by Cade Jackson gave Mount Ida a 22-0 lead.

Lafayette County (1-9, 1-6) got its only score of the game on a 63yard rushing touchdown by junior O’dashun Ellis.

It was all Mount Ida through the rest of the half. Luke Fiorello returned a pair of fumbles for scores and Jackson returned an intercepti­on

55 yards for a touchdown. Hamilton led the offense with 82 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries for an average of 11.7 yards per carry. Jackson had 40 yards and a score on eight rushing attempts. Davis added 28 yards and a touchdown on five carries.

A dozen Lions combined to carry the ball 30 times for 206 yards.

Senior Kirklyn Sorrell led the defense with seven total tackles, including two behind the line of scrimmage. Seniors Gage Dyer and Oscar Pinedo added six tackles and five tackles, respective­ly.

The winner of the first-round playoff game at Mount Ida will advance to face the top seed from the

2A-4. Mountainbu­rg (7-1, 6-0) met Hector (6-3, 4-1) on Friday night in a matchup between the 2A-4’s top two teams.

Mount Ida’s only losses this season were to 2A-7 leaders Gurdon

(8-1, 6-0) and Foreman (7-1, 5-1). The Gators hosted the Go-Devils Friday with the conference title on the line.

Bismarck 42, Genoa Central 13

BISMARCK — Bismarck was able to pick up its second win of the season on Thursday as the Lions closed out the year with a 42-13 victory at home against Genoa Central.

Both teams were 0-6 in the 3A-5 conference before Thursday’s game.

Bismarck (2-8, 1-6) gave up a league-worst 383 points in conference play, but the Lions scored 223, more than three other teams. Fouke earned the conference’s fifth seed in the playoffs while only scoring 116 points and allowing 220.

Genoa Central scored 73 points against conference opponents and gave up 318. Horatio was outscored, 311-82, but picked up conference wins against Bismarck and Genoa by scores of 18-13 and 27-17, respective­ly.

Prescott 51, Centerpoin­t 0

PRESCOTT — Centerpoin­t finished the regular season as the fourth seed from the 3A-5 conference, but the Knights were humbled, 51-0, by conference runner-up Prescott on Thursday.

The Curley Wolves (9-1, 6-1) outscored their final four opponents,

185-3. Their only conference loss was a 21-20 defeat to conference champion Smackover (9-1, 7-0) on Oct. 5.

Prescott scored 18 points in the opening quarter Thursday and 21 in the second. The Curley Wolves tacked on another touchdown in each of the third and fourth quarters.

Centerpoin­t (6-4, 4-3) must next go on the road in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to face the runner-up from the 3A-3 conference. Osceola (8-1, 6-0) and Newport (8-1,

6-0) squared off Friday night for the

3A-3 title.
