Alleged mugger arrested for felony robbery

- STEVEN MROSS

A local man was arrested early Friday on a felony robbery charge after allegedly mugging a man who had earlier given him a cigarette.

Christopher Lee Kilmer, 31, who lists a Washington Street address, was taken into custody shortly before 7 a.m. and charged with robbery, punishable by up to 20 years in prison. He was being held on $5,000 bond and appeared Monday in Garland County

District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after 6:30 a.m. Friday, Hot Springs police Officer Jason Greene responded to the 1500 block of Hobson Avenue regarding a disturbance and made contact with a man, identified as Kilmer, standing in the road in the

200 block of Anna Street.

Kilmer said he was the victim of a crime and pointed to a man on the second floor of the apartments at 210 Anna. Greene spoke to the man, 23, who stated he had just walked to the E-Z Mart, 505 Summer St., to purchase some cigarettes and on the way back ran into Kilmer who asked him for a cigarette.

He said he didn’t know Kilmer but gave him a cigarette and then returned home. While on the front upstairs porch at the residence, he said Kilmer suddenly appeared asking if he could charge his phone. The man told him no and turned to go inside his apartment when Kilmer allegedly grabbed the wallet from his back pocket and attempted to flee down the stairs.

The man said he grabbed Kilmer and the two began to fight

for the wallet on the balcony. During the struggle, Kilmer managed to remove the money from the wallet and throw it over the balcony. The man said he was able to run down the stairs first and retrieve his money.

Greene noted the man had several wrinkled and torn bills in his possession and confirmed the balcony furniture was turned over and in disarray. The man’s sister told Greene she was awakened by the disturbance and opened the front door to see her brother and Kilmer struggling.

She said she yelled at Kilmer to leave and Kilmer “charged at me” and she had to retreat because she was pregnant.

Kilmer was taken into custody at the scene without further incident.
