Springs Mu­sic Club to present pa­tri­otic mu­sic pro­gram on Sun­day

The Hot Springs Mu­sic Club will present a pro­gram of Amer­i­can pa­tri­otic mu­sic at 3 p.m. Sun­day at West­min­ster Pres­by­te­rian Church, 3819 Cen­tral Ave.

The Spa City Brass, com­prised of Bill Crook, Rick Per­ry­man, Lloyd Kuhn, David Pierce and Bruce Har­vey, will play a se­lec­tion of Amer­i­can mu­sic hon­or­ing the coun­try and the vet­er­ans who have fought to pre­serve democ­racy, a news re­lease said.

Robin Wil­liams, Kathie White and Mary Tay­lor will sing “In Flan­ders Fields” in honor of the 100-year an­niver­sary of the end of World War I. The trio will be ac­com­pa­nied by a string quar­tet of James Smith, Char­lotte Brown, Mered­ith Nes­bitt and Alex Nes­bitt. The his­tory of the poem writ­ten dur­ing the First World War will be given by Mary Ellen White. The trio will also per­form “I Hear Amer­ica Singing,” ac­com­pa­nied by Gay Goslin Smith.

Ni­cholas Dami­ani, as­sis­tant or­gan­ist for West­min­ster Pres­by­te­rian, will present “Fan­fare on Amer­ica the Beau­ti­ful” by Matthew H. Corl. Dami­ani moved to Hot Springs from Philadel­phia in De­cem­ber 2016. He is a grad­u­ate of the Univer­sity of the Arts in or­gan per­for­mance and mu­sic ed­u­ca­tion from Cabrini Col­lege, Rad­nor, Penn. He taught el­e­men­tary class­room mu­sic for 30 years in Delaware County, Penn. He is a life­long opera fan and he was a re­cip­i­ent of a year­long grant from the Met­ro­pol­i­tan Opera to teach opera to fourth-graders. As a re­sult of his work, the chil­dren wrote, com­posed, pro­duced, and di­rected a per­for­mance of an orig­i­nal opera at the end of the year. Be­fore lo­cat­ing to Hot Springs, Ni­cholas served for 40 years in Lutheran churches as or­gan­ist/mu­sic di­rec­tor. He is par­tic­u­larly de­voted to the mu­sic of J.S. Bach, a news re­lease said.

Dami­ani will also ac­com­pany Jackie Flow­ers, founder of the Hot Springs Flute En­sem­ble, on pic­colo in per­form­ing “Scars and Scrapes For­ever” by Ken Laufer. Flow­ers and Sara Fer­ril will per­form a flute duet en­ti­tled “Amer­i­can Pa­trol.”

The pub­lic, es­pe­cially vet­er­ans and their fam­i­lies, are wel­come to at­tend.
