Library to offer Tech Help Fair

-

The Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave., will host a Tech Help Fair on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 1-6 p.m. in the library’s auditorium.

The library’s tech-savvy staff, along with volunteers from the Hot Springs Tech Learning Center, will be available to provide one-on-one assistance and will present information on a variety of electronics, devices and gadgets. The program is free and open to the public.

In addition to answering general tech questions, the library’s staff will help with specific issues spanning all types of electronics, websites and devices.

“So many of the library’s digital services are now accessible from anywhere there’s an internet connection. This is great, but it can be overwhelming so we find it’s helpful to host an occasional Tech Help program to keep our patrons connected to all the newest and coolest things you can do through the library,” Karen Covey, circulation supervisor, said in a news release.

“For example, did you know that with Hoopla Digital, the library’s streaming service, you can listen to music and audiobooks through your Alexa or Echo? It’s all free with your library card and we want to teach you how to do it.”

The library’s staff will demonstrate how to use library services on tablets, smartphones and laptops. Patrons are welcome to bring their own devices and account login information for one-on-one help. Children’s librarians will feature some of their robotics and coding tools they use in STEM programming. Staff members will show attendees how to set up Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts and giving a basic tutorial on how to use these social platforms. Tech staff members will demonstrate some interesting tricks with Amazon Echo as well as showing how to use Echo with Hoopla Digital.

Patrons are also welcome to ask questions about other services such as Hulu, Netflix, Reddit, Pinterest, YouTube, and any other tech gadget or website.

A raffle for various tech devices will be held, courtesy of a donation from the Friends of the Library. Attendees must be present to win.
