Lakeside advances to finals of Fordyce tournament

FORDYCE — Lakeside’s senior high girls advanced to the finals of a tournament this week in Fordyce with a 34-31 win against Camden Fairview on Wednesday.

Lakeside (6-0) opened the tournament with a 51-23 win against Bearden (1-1) before meeting Fairview (3-1) in the semifinals. The Lady Rams led, 19-15, at halftime on Wednesday and took a 29-20 lead into the final quarter. Their largest lead was 13 points.

“Our girls played hard,” said Lakeside senior high girls’ basketball head coach Chris Brock.

“We didn’t always play smart, but we made enough plays at winning time. We’re looking forward to playing in the finals Saturday night.”

Sophomore Adachi Igbokidi earned her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Maddie Trusty scored eight points, including two 3-pointers, and grabbed seven rebounds.

Senior Ashton Patrick finished with seven points, three rebounds and three assists. Senior Lindsey Davis, junior Chloe Porter and sophomore Erika Bittinger each scored three points. Bittinger also made six assists, Porter had five steals and Davis had two rebounds.

Lakeside cruised on Tuesday with a 35-7 lead by halftime. Patrick led the team with 15 points and three assists.

“Our defense, especially in the first quarter, was the key to us getting out to the big lead,” Brock said. “We were able to get out in transition and get some easy baskets.”

Porter added 13 points and another five steals, while Igbokidi had seven points and five rebounds. Senior Miller Dickerson finished with four points and four rebounds, while Bittinger made five assists with three points.

Lakeside will travel tonight for a non-conference road game at Greenbrier (1-4). The Lady Rams will face Smackover (2-3) in the tournament final on Saturday in Fordyce.

* Lakeside’s junior high girls improved to 4-1 Monday with a 45-15 road win at Hope. The junior Lady Rams led, 13-1, after the opening quarter, took a 27-5 lead into halftime and stretched the lead to 39-12 to start the fourth quarter.

Davenport led the team’s balanced scoring effort with eight points. Catriona Morcan and Kennedy Brock each scored eight points. Sarah Porter scored six points., Madeline Goodson scored five and Maggie Dickerson scored four.

The eighth-grade team also won, 33-13, at Hope. The margin was 8-3 to start the second quarter, but it grew to 16-7 after the first half and 26-9 after the third quarter.

Riley Orr was the leading scorer with 12 points. Brooklyn Bourland scored seven points and Alexis Session scored five.
