HSV Rotary hears about meat, memories, and service

-

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Joey Clampit of Clampit’s Country Kitchen and Meat Market on Highway 7 was the guest speaker at Thursday’s Hot Springs Village Rotary Club meeting.

Past President Steve Wright led into the program by stating it should be of interest because “we all like to eat.” Rotarian of the Day Melanie Pederson introduced Clampit and shared his community involvement such as participation in events like the annual Walk for Cancer Research, adding that Clampit “has service — and meat — in his blood.”

During what a news release called a “highly entertaining program,” Clampit discussed the series of events that led him and his wife to Hot Springs Village. He described their desire to be good stewards of their blessings by sharing them with the community through the unlikely venue of a meat market. In an age of mass grocery retailers, he said that part of his success is “we’re not there to sell you something but to enhance the quality of life for you and the community.”

He noted that the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” struck home with him, saying that part of his personal mission is to do that “by giving you back part of your history, to provide an experience you haven’t had in 40 years.” He said that his market provides a place for local residents to share stories of their family dinners, traditions, and “recipes your mother used to make.” In that way, he said he hoped to make life more enjoyable for Village residents.
