Fire damages home

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

MOUNTAIN PINE — A home at 302 Ninth St. in Mountain Pine was heavily damaged by a fire that prompted a response from two fire departments Wednesday afternoon.

A large plume of black and white smoke filled the air as more than 16 firefighters from the Mountain Pine and Piney fire departments battled the blaze. It took nearly an hour for firefighters to bring the fire under control and even longer to secure the residence and treat lingering “hot spots.”

Piney Fire Chief Scott Miser said the house was occupied when the fire broke out shortly before 3 p.m., but all of the residents made it to safety. One Mountain Pine firefighter was transported from the scene by

ambulance due to smoke inhalation.

“It was a lot of work. I know it looked like a rat race in the beginning but that’s just what it is on a full-blown structure fire. Everyone worked together good and we got it knocked out as quickly as we could,” Miser said.

Mountain Pine school buses were being rerouted around the fire scene. Several residents in the area crowded the perimeter of the scene and offered their condolences to the residents who lost their home.

Three fire engines were at the scene, from Mountain Pine Fire Department and Piney, which arrived to provide mutual aid. Entergy Arkansas Inc. and the Garland County Sheriff’s Department were also at the fire scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
