Lady Lions complete season sweep of Fountain Lake

- BOB WISENER

FOUNTAIN LAKE — Though not a clinic on the sport, Fountain Lake’s girls basketball game with Jessieville Tuesday night generated strong emotions on both sides. Even among teams with 23 combined losses before their second matchup this season, bragging rights still matter.

To Jessieville junior Lilliana Fehrenbacher, the rematch at Irvin J. Bass Gymnasium had deeper meaning. An ex-Lady Cobra, Fehrenbacher had 14 points against her former team as Jessieville completed the season sweep with a 51-38 victory.

Jessieville, a 37-19 winner when the teams met Dec. 4, improved to 11-9 overall and 3-5 in

3A-Region 4. Fountain Lake fell to

5-15 and 0-8, respectively, despite

17 points from sophomore Presley Hamric.

Junior Taryn Anderson and senior Allie Storement each scored

12 points for Jessieville, which led

18-11 at halftime and 32-25 after three quarters.

Anderson scored on an off-balance shot in the lane early in the fourth quarter, and Fehrenbacher found sophomore Harli Bassett inside for a 37-27 lead. Fountain Lake got within seven three times the last at 42-35, before Storement scored seven straight points, a three included.

* Fountain Lake prevailed, 2422, in the junior high girls’ game. Jessieville scored four points in each of the first three quarters to trail, 5-4, 11-8 and 17-12 after each six minutes. The visitors outscored the junior Lady Cobras (88), 10-7, over the final six minutes Karlie Craver was the leading scorer with 10 points. Jaylin Rhoades finished with six points.

Fountain Lake’s junior Lady Cobras will next play on Tuesday at Two Rivers.
