Senior Cobras secure 3A-4 second seed

LAMAR — Fountain Lake’s senior high boys’ basketball team secured the No. 2 seed in the 3A-4 district tournament on Friday with the Cobras’ final road conference game of the regular season.

Fountain Lake (20-5, 10-3) won, 5146, on the road at Lamar (9-16, 2-11). The Cobras enter tonight’s final conference tilt at home against Paris (12-14,

5-8) with a one-game lead on the thirdand fourth-place teams.

Senior guard Ahman Johnson led all scorers with 18 points against the Warriors. Fellow seniors Jordan Mungle and Joe Murphy finished with 12 and 10 points, respective­ly.

Sophomore point guard Ethan Kendall led Lamar with 17 points.

Jessievill­e (18-7, 9-4) and Perryville

(15-8, 9-4) are tied behind Fountain Lake. The Lions will finish their conference schedule at home against Atkins

(7-14, 3-10), while the Mustangs will host the conference No. 1 seed, Booneville (23-1, 13-0).

The Cobras won both matchups with the Mustangs, 39-36 on Jan. 8 at Perryville and 63-35 at Fountain Lake. They won on the road, 57-41, at Jessievill­e in December, but the Lions won the second matchup at Fountain Lake,

59-54, in January.

Fountain Lake will close the regular season on Friday with a non-conference game at Cutter Morning Star (15-7, 10-4

2A-5 South). The Eagles earned the No.

2 seed in their conference.

The 3A-4 district tournament will be held next week at Two Rivers in Ola. No schools submitted a bid to host the

3A-2 regional tournament the following week, but the Arkansas Activities Associatio­n later reached an agreement for Perryville to host.

* Fountain Lake’s junior high boys’ basketball team closed the regular season on Thursday with a 41-36 road victory at Centerpoin­t.

The junior Cobras (16-4) led, 6-5, after the opening quarter, but they surged ahead, 19-12, by halftime and took a 31-18 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Colby Lambert led all scorers with

12 points. Michael Moore added 10 points.

Fountain Lake earned the No. 3 seed in the 3A-4 junior high district tournament at Paris. The junior Cobras will face the host team, the No. 6 seed junior Eagles, on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.

The tournament began on Monday with top-seeded Jessievill­e facing Two Rivers.

Girls

Fountain Lake’s senior high girls suffered another tough loss on Friday, 55-52, on a last-second 3-pointer at Lamar.

Lamar (20-4, 11-2) kept pace with Atkins (20-4, 11-2) for second place in the

3A-4 conference. The Lady Cobras (5-20,

0-13) will enter the district tournament as the no. 8 seed.

The Lady Warriors had a 14-9 lead after the first quarter, and held a 24-22 advantage at halftime. The Lady Cobras pulled ahead, 37-31, lead after the three quarters, but they were outscored, 24-15, in the final eight minutes.

Junior forward Emoree Martin scored

19 points. Sophomore guard Presley Hamric added 16 points.

Fountain Lake’s final home conference game of the regular season will be tonight against Paris (17-9, 7-6), the No. 4 seed. Lamar will be on the road at Jessievill­e (13-12, 5-8), while Lamar will host the conference leader, Two Rivers

(20-6, 12-1).

The Lady Cobras’ final game of the regular season will be a non-conference matchup on Friday at Cutter Morning Star (6-16, 4-10 2A-5 South). The Lady Eagles will be the No. 6 seed in their district tournament.
