National Park Photography Club to meet

-

National Park Photography Club member Robert Sonnen will present “Getting the Exposure That Will Match Your Vision” when the club meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Garland County Library.

“While it is no longer necessary for us to have an in depth understanding of the ‘Zone System’ developed by Ansel Adams, a familiarity with its principles can help you make images that have the depth that was seen with the eye. Robert will explain how knowing where on your histogram the various zones of exposure should be will result in capturing an image that has the detail and textures you want,” a news release said.

Sonnen has been an avid photographer since joining his first camera club in 1974. As a club member, he competed in nature and pictorial competitions. He held several positions in the club and conducted workshops on many aspects of photography for 15 years. Sonnen was also a member of the Photographic Society of America and received a service award in 1989 for his contributions to PSA camera clubs. He also headed the PSA Club Judging Service for five years.

Sonnen became a professional photographer in 1993, specializing in portraiture. He then joined he Professional Photographers of America and earned the distinguished Certified Professional Photographer designation in 2001. He is a past board member and president of PPA New Mexico.

After retirement, Sonnen and his wife, Melissa, moved to Hot Springs Village, where he has continued his membership in local camera clubs. Most recently, his interest has led him to storytelling “in an awesome and fun way through photographic compositing,” the release said.

“The accompanying photo, composed by Robert Sonnen, should give you a good idea about what Robert will be presenting next Tuesday night as he discusses utilizing the histograms that are generated in your camera for capturing better images,” the release said.

Club judging in February will be submitted for the Gulf States Camera Club Counsel May contest, which is Pictorial Prints (Color & B&W), Nature (Projected Images & Prints). Members may make up to four submissions in each category.

“If you have ever considered attending one of the NPPC monthly meetings, this month’s presentation is going to be very special and as a club, we would be pleased to have people from our community who have an interest in photography to join us,” the release said.

NPPC welcomes new members who are interested in expanding their photography skills in a collegial and supportive environment. A one-year membership to NPPC is just $20.
