Village Chorale Spring Concert ‘Songs in the Night’ set for April
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Tom Bolton, director of The Village Chorale, has announced the theme for its annual Spring Concert, “Songs in the Night.”
“There are many different types of songs that we might hear in the night — songs of faith, prayers, joyful songs of celebration, love songs, ballads, songs of hope, and poignant songs about music or the night itself,” Bolton said in a news release.
The audience will hear a wide variety of music styles from the daily prayer of Mother Teresa set to music beautifully by “Rene” Clausen, to the majestic “How Great Thou Art,” to a magnificent chorale setting of “The Music of the Night” from “The Phantom of the Opera,” to a great jazz Swing Medley, to the majestic first act closing chorus from “Les Mis’erabales” — “One More Day,” the release said.
“There will be something for everyone in this concert.”
The Village Chorale is accompanied by Elsen Portugal of Hot Springs on piano. In addition, Bolton and nine of the chorale’s singers live in Hot Springs. At this concert there will also be other instruments used in many of the selections, including a string quartet, string bass, percussion, and “a few surprises.”
The Village Chorale is an auditioned mixed choral ensemble made up of 37 experienced singers from the Hot Springs and Hot Springs Village area. Many Chorale members made music their career from teachers and professors to Ministers of Music. The group was started in 1997, and performed its first concert at The Woodlands Auditorium in Hot Springs Village in 1999. Since then, The Village Chorale has been a regular performer at this venue with concerts in both the Spring and Christmas seasons. The chorale performs at Garvan Woodland Gardens and other Hot Springs venues.
“Songs in the Night” will be performed on Thursday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. at The Woodlands Auditorium; 1101 DeSoto Blvd. Tickets are available now and are $12 for open seating and can be purchased at hsvticketsales.com, or from any chorale member.
