Taco Pronto celebrates 50th anniversary
Bill and Sarah Murray opened Taco Pronto 50 years ago on Feb. 17, 1969, making it Hot Springs’ oldest Mexican restaurant.
According to the Murrays, area residents were eagerly awaiting the opening. Taco Pronto was originally located at 1301 Central Ave. For years, children from Hot Springs High School and Central Junior High would walk there after school to get a snack and to listen to the jukebox.
In 1998, the restaurant moved to its current location at 4350 Central Ave., taking along many of the original tables and benches. The restaurant has always been known for its cheese dip (chile con queso). It is made from a special recipe created by the Murrays. Another all-time favorite is the cheese crisp. Other specialties include burritos covered with cheese dip or chili, enchilada dinners, guacamole salad, ballpark nachos, tamales, taco salad, pronto burgers, veggie specials, Frito pies, and the deluxe Mexican dinners.
Customers can choose their favorites with beef, chicken or beans, and top it with homemade pico de gallo. Walker Murray worked with his parents at Taco Pronto for 40 years. He now owns and operates the business.
“Taco Pronto would like to thank all of our customers of the past 50 years for helping us to build a successful business,” a news release said. “We look forward to serving you in the future.”

Taco Pronto is open six days a week. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and closed on Sundays. Call Taco Pronto at 525-7309.
