Razorbacks fall to LMU in LA

LOS ANGELES — Arkansas sophomore Tatum Rice continued to lead the Razorbacks on Saturday at Loyola Marymount, but the women’s tennis team fell, 4-1, on the road at the LMU Tennis Center.

Rice, of Lakeside, and partner Martina Zerulo helped Arkansas (7-3) earn its only point from doubles play. They won at the No. 1 doubles spot, 6-4, against Vero Miroshnich­enko and Eva Marie Voracek. The pair now has a 4-2 record this season, all at the No. 1 position.

The Razorbacks lost at the No. 3 position, but they drew level with a 6-4 win in the No. 2 match. Freshman Thea Rice, also of Lakeside, and Lauren Alter defeated Sofiya Gaisina and Yesica De Lucas.

Loyola Marymount (2-3) swept all four singles matches to finish. Lillian Gabrielson gave the Lions their first point with a win at the No. 4 spot.

Thea Rice has missed several matches this season due to injury. She retired Saturday after losing the first set, 6-0, to Gabrielson.

Elvira Juravliova then defeated Alter, 6-4, 6-1, and Voracek downed Zerulo, 6-3, 6-2. Camila Tumosa clinched the victory at No. 6, 6-4, 6-2, against Swetha Prabakar.

Tatum Rice lost her first set,

6-2, to Miroshnich­enko in No. 1 singles, but she led, 6-5, in the second set at the clinch. Rice is ranked No. 78 and leads Arkansas in singles play, going 7-1 primarily at the No. 2 position.

Arkansas has lost three straight matches since beginning the season 7-0. The Razorbacks upset then-No. 9 Oklahoma State (4-5), 4-3, before backto-back losses to Oklahoma (62) and Tulsa (7-5).

Up next for the Razorbacks is a road matchup on Saturday at No. 12 Kansas (6-1).
