Man faces felony battery after beating girl with switches
A local man was arrested Monday afternoon on a felony battery warrant stemming from allegations he injured his 14-year-old stepdaughter earlier this year while beating her with switches.
Adam Lee Dollarhyde, 31, who lists a Thornton Ferry Road address, was taken into custody shortly after 1 p.m. in a traffic stop by Arkansas State Police on Westpine Drive and charged with third-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to six years in prison.
Dollarhyde, who also had a warrant for failure to appear, remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of
$6,000 bond and a parole hold and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on April 21, the Garland County Sheriff’s Department received a report regarding the battery of a 14-yearold girl by a known person, identified as Dollarhyde,
which occurred at an undisclosed location.
The next day, the girl was interviewed at the Cooper-Anthony Mercy Child Advocacy Center by forensic interviewer Morgan Stidham with sheriff’s Investigator Jennifer Tonseth plus an investigator from the Division of Children and Family Services and a court advocate.
The girl reportedly stated Dollarhyde, identified as her stepfather, got a switch, grabbed her arm and began hitting her legs with it until the switch broke. Then he got a second switch and she “moved a little bit” and turned because it was a bigger stick. He ordered her not to move and used the second switch which broke so he got a third.
The affidavit notes the victim had numerous linear marks with bruising caused by the switch.
The affidavit also noted Dollarhyde was previously convicted of third-degree domestic battery in 2016 and convicted of second-degree assault of a family or household member in 2017, both out of Polk County.
Because of the age of the victim and the prior convictions, a warrant for a felony charge of battery was issued April 24.
