Public meeting for Comprehensive Plan update set

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

The first public meeting for the City’s Comprehensive Plan update will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Rooms 207-208 of the Hot Springs Convention Center.

Design Workshop has been selected by the city to work with the city staff, leaders, and residents to create Envision Hot Springs, an update to the City’s Comprehensive Plan, a news release said.

The project will integrate all previous and ongoing plans with new features, policy recommendations, and development strategies, the release said.

“Hot Springs is special; we want to promote a built environment that reflects Hot Springs, its unique landscape and culture by providing better housing choices and urban design, by preserving and promoting character, by protecting historical assets, by providing walkable streets and adequate parking, and through equitable access to common goods and services,” Kathy Sellman, city planning director, said in the release.

“A key goal is to help improve dialogue, collaboration and a shared sense of purpose with Garland County,” she said.

Participants in the public meeting will help answer questions about what things in Hot Springs they would like to see preserved or changed. Anyone living or working in Hot Springs is welcome to attend.

“You do not have to be an expert to participate,” Sellman said. Call Sellman or Rick Stauder at 501-321-6650 for more information.

The nine-month process to create the plan update will include a civic engagement process.
