Not a ‘spectator’ sport

-

Dear editor:

Time is running out on our country, an experiment in self-rule by the majority. We were given a mandate so rare and fragile we were warned it was ours only as long as we worked to preserve it. Democracy is not a “spectator” sport. Sitting on the sidelines is no longer an option.

The president of the United States of America is using every means available to his limited ability, mental and emotional, to destroy our country. Congress, doing nothing, to control or rein him in is complicit in this plan to ensure only the very wealthy have rights and freedom of movement around the country and the world.

Threatening people with extradition or deportation because of his idea or belief that they are illegal immigrants and setting a date when and where this will occur, announcing it publicly and then not doing it is domestic terrorism in its worst form. Raising the anxiety level through any community that isn’t absolutely white and/ or born in America is cruel and abuse of power. Tearing children from the arms of parents seeking asylum from climate and or political assault is the tools of a weak, self absorbed bully. Locking people in cages with inadequate food, cleaning supplies for body maintenance or health care is international terrorism exerted domestically.

The president has diminished if not destroyed the agencies that protect the public from irresponsible, greedy self-serving people and or corporations. The FDA has seen a mass exodus of scientists that are not politically aligned to the private sector. They are the ones that certify our food, our drugs, our children are safe from contaminants. Who will do their job now with the agency disbanded? The EPA is being defunded and downsized. Who will guarantee our air and water will continue to be safe to breathe or drink when it’s gone? Any agency that restricts the profiteering of the corporations or people with the means to exploit our limited resources is removed or downsized. Any corporation or entity that wants to exploit our limited resources is rewarded with reduced taxes and removal of restrictions involving labor, or safety of employees.

With all the other actions committed by this man, we are seeing a megalomaniac running amok. If Congress continues to ignore these problems they are the problem. In 2020 all should be replaced that have hindered or stalled any action being taken by those willing to take control of our government by impeaching and removing Donald J. Trump from the White House.
