Maria C.T. Wallace

Maria Carolina Triviño Wallace (91) of Hot Springs, died peacefully on the morning of July 21st, 2019. She was born on May 2nd, 1928, in Montoro, Spain. Maria is preceded in death by her parents and siblings from Spain, her brother Francisco Risques, and son Kenneth Wallace Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Kenneth Wallace, her daughter-in-law, Jenny Wallace, daughters, Cynthia Risques, Juanita Lynch, sons, Greg (Mary Beth) Wallace, Michael Wallace, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

As she grew up in Spain, Maria developed her abilities as a seamstress, painter, dancer, and gardener. Along with her school studies, she read voraciously in her free time, reading any materials available to her. Although she dearly loved her home country, she met Kenneth Wallace, an American Air Force administrator who would become her husband. After their marriage in Spain, the couple left the country and lived on Air Force bases in England, Belgium, and several U.S. states before settling in Hot Springs.

Maria was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading throughout her life. She remained a devout Catholic until the day of her death. She had an affinity for living things and watching them grow - animals, plants, and her beloved family. Maria remained resilient until the end of her life. She lived through a civil war, multiple childbirths, the premature deaths of several loved ones, and finally through her own pre-leukemia and kidney disease diagnoses. Through it all, she remained both incredibly loving and impressively sharp. She lived fearlessly, with her piercing blue eyes always wide open and unflinching— while thumbing her rosary; while reading thrillers or the newspaper; while receiving blood transfusions; while telling stories and delivering particularly sassy comments. She gave us leafy green, sunshot childhoods. She gave us meals, courage, and care. She gave us bug spray when we helped her in the yard that she tended to so carefully, just like the lives of the ones she loved. She taught us to love, to laugh, and to always face life unflinchingly, with our eyes wide open. She will be deeply, deeply missed.

Visitation hours will be from 6-7:30 p.m. with a rosary following from 7:30-8 p.m. today, July 23rd at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (589 West Grand Ave.) on Wednesday, July 24th at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic School, 583 W. Grand Ave, Hot Springs, AR 71901.
