‘Thanks’ for magazine

Dear editor:

I’ve enjoyed the HER magazine since the first issue. The July/August issue is particularly interesting with so many local personalities represented. I have enjoyed the Foul Play Cabaret on several occasions and appreciate all their creativeness both with costuming and dancing. It is true that the Oseguera family of restaurants is a generous contributor to our community fundraising efforts. They have never turned down my request for donations while asking for gift certificates for the Jazz Society events. How nice to have that lovely family here in Hot Springs. I don’t know Peaches Smith, but I may have to get an introduction. She is adorable and I was inspired by her tenacity. Imagine never having trained as a pageant contestant and finding new ways to succeed as such. Kudos to you Ms. Smith and my hat’s off to pageant director Patricia Genovese for her work with all the ladies.

The articles about Shunying Chen, Eleanor Veazey and Winnie Montgomery introduced me to new faces, although I have had the privilege of meeting Shunying. Ruth Coker Burks is a hero. I salute her. Imagine having to live with a secret for fear of losing your daughter. A secret of offering compassion and love for another who is suffering greatly. Ms. Burks’ humanity is unbounded and is an inspiration to all who would embrace and follow her example.

Thank you to all the HER staff. I know there are more inspiring stories waiting to be told. I’ll be listening.
